Okay, I've been using Williams only since Sunday and in my previous post I said it was good for the price. Well, I take that back. This stuff dries on my face in 2 minutes or less to a point where I can't shave! I have to constantly relather. Forget about second passes without relathering 'cause it's not happening! Would it be right to PIF my last three boxes of it?
Like looking at road kill in a previous post, I not only looked, I stopped and picked it up. I've never tried it, and never intended to, due to the mass of bad press. Now that it's going away, I ordered three pucks. I'm thinking that I am in need of some serious help.
I think I would be more concerned if VDH were discontinued, that at least whips up a pretty good lather. I personally believe VDH was responsible for the the downfall of Williams. Every store in Indy sells VDH, but you can hardly find Williams anywhere. And that is the way it has been for a couple of years. Dave
I figured out the secret to getting great lather from Williams. First you melt down 3 or 4 pucks of Stirling or VDH then stir in 1/8th teaspoon of melted Williams. Pour into jars, cool, and lather away
Well, you might be right. I can get VDH almost anywhere nowadays. Even though it's about $3.50 a puck, it's light years ahead of Williams. In fact, the first thing I did tonight when I got home was pop out the Williams puck from my mug and pop in a VDH. See yah Williams!
I picked up a couple of pucks from the local drug store. $1.25 after tax each. Not bad. Never tried the stuff, but I'll give it a shot. I have to admit, I wouldn't have gotten it had I not found this thread a day or two ago.
I wrote them as I feel we all should, to voice our cocerns....This is the answer I got, although I don't understand what it means....is it or is it not being cancelled ? Maybe they haven't decided absolutely....: Dear Mr. Chisholm: At this time we can not speak to Williams Mug Soap being discontinued. Williams Mug Soap is currently still being manufactured in limited distribution. Thank you for contacting us. Sincerely, Tamara Tamara Consumer Resources Consultant Case #539986
Several major chains are not stocking Williams anymore, so as a result, they are not making as much of it anymore. It hasn't been discontinued yet. It's just slowly dying out like the prehistoric dinosaur it is. If they would double the price and return it to the original formula...well, that won't ever happen.
You can get a lifetime supply from Amazon, but only 1 sixpack in stock. What surprised me is the 4.5 star rating from 394 reviewers. I would have expected 1/2 star, maybe 1 tops.
I received my Williams a couple of days ago. I got a great shave with it. All it needed was was some help from some Prooraso blue shave cream This is a top shelf product, as you can clearly see that's where it belongs; so you don't grab it by mistake
Williams lathers great for me....easy, effortless, and performs...slick, protective, and easy to rinse without leaving any film...I love the stuff.....
I just tried Williams for the first time this morning. I was a bit sceptical, but it honestly worked well for me. I wouldn't put it up there with Stirling or some of my other favorites, but at $1.25 a puck from the local drug store, you can't hardly argue the value vs performance.
Its all I've ever used. I have 2 pucks now and I'll probably buy a few more since they are $1.32 at my local grocery. Lots of water and a stiff nylon brush works wonders. I'v had lather last for an hour in a bowl and still be thick and creamy. That was with new production I picked up about a year ago when I moved last and couldn't find which box had my soap mug. both pucks have been grated into it now.
I agree with you, Lilac Vegetal is fantastic and deserves at least 4.5 stars, whereas Williams should be at the bottom.
