    NCoxSTL AAACK!

For those who didn't see the post in the what are you waiting for thread a short background......

I have a customer who bought a car from me back in April. Older guy, a pain in the butt on the car deal but a nice enough guy all in all. Haven't talked to him since helping him program his satellite radio in the car after twenty tries. Yeah, he was a bit of a pain. Anyway, he calls this morning and is bringing his car in to have it worked on for some minor stuff today and he remembers that I collect and use old razors. Seems he found three in some drawer and wondered if I'd buy them for $20. Sure, I say, because that's what I do. So, three mystery razors on the way and lots of time to dream of a Toggle, bottom dial Fatboy, you know, just the plain Jane stuff. He shows up around three, hands me a bag, takes his money, we chat about his car, I give his wife a hug and shake his hand and retreat to my office to discover three very cruddy (as expected) razors. Here's what they looked like.......
    3and blades.jpg

Oh yeah, a few blades included in his offering as well as the one in the razor that is laying on my desk. So, the right one is a Flair Tip Super Speed. In the middle, a 40's Super Speed, and on the left....it's a Slim. I'll take this selection. Cleaned up a bit and you have.........

I'll be spending some time this weekend continuing to get these cleaned up, but I can tell you the 40's is a late '47 to 49 model and works great. The Slim is a 1965 and appears to operate fine. Just needs a lot of cleaning and some rust stain removal from the blade being in it. The Flair tip is my birth year....1959 so it's a twin of the one I already own. I also have a '46/47 SS so I now have both models (no notch on the center bar on the earlier model, notched on this one) and I've added a Slim to my collection which is also my first adjustable.

One more post coming for the Haul today. In my mailbox I have a package waiting...it's a Slim I won on Ebay so I'll now have two of those once I go down and retrieve it. Whichever Slim is in better condition will probably go to replating, the other will be cleaned and probably sold but we'll see. All in all a pretty good day!

    Lesse....speaking purely monetary...

    ..assuming that they are mechanically sound and cleans up to 'ok'-to-'good'-looking, and taking into account they are cased, I'll swag;

    Flair tip SS: $19
    Reg SS: $14
    Slim: $28.50

    Swag total: $61.50

    S&H: Free

From a dollar and cents perspective you did great - especially considering that you don't know the difference between a super speed and a slim :D

Disclaimer: I barely know what I'm talking about

Unless of course, you realize the text was describing the razors above the text, not below

Ok, you made me look. I confused even myself by the way I laid out the pictures and statements. The order from right to left refers to the top picture proving, therefore, that I do know the difference between a super speed and a slim. I just need to hire an editor when I take on posts longer than ten lines. As to your estimate of the monetary value, yeah, I'd say triple the investment is a good ratio. And hey, if I pass off one of them as a rare and sought after "Super Slim Speedster" I can probably double that as well!

Midnight madness tonight. Took a stroll down to the mailbox to retrieve the Slim I won on Ebay. It's in need of a bit of clean up. Will add it to the other three from today and have a nice project for Saturday night and Sunday!
    This one is a 1964. J1.

I sometimes find it surprisingly relaxing to clean razors.

I'll bet after the first couple hundred it becomes more narcotic than relaxing.

Well that narcotic effect is relaxing in its own special way. The drool gets a bit messy but you gotta take the bad with the good:drool:

Yes. No work intruding, watching that dull cruddy thing become the shiny that we dream of. And...knowing you get to shave with it once you're done. Mmmmmmmmmmm............razors.

Automatic dishwashers.....still one of my favorite inventions. I have no "mmmmmmmmm.....dishes" function either. If I didn't have that in my house I'd be using the same plate and silverware over and over. Eat, rinse, wipe, repeat. Either that or paper plates for everyone.

498g is a lot of shaves. (for comparison - MdC Brain Bowl is 130g)
If you were a fan of Klar Kabinett, this is a more than respectable substitute.
