So I took the Stirling for a test run and I can tell you that it's not just a softie. I figured that if Rod is going to sell it then it better work with his soap. As luck would have it there was a brand new tub of Ozark Mountain in today's box so I let it bloom with a little warm water for about a minute, then I dipped the brush in warm water poured the water off the soap and started loading. Wow I thought I would have trouble loading with such a soft brush but in less than 15 seconds I had a brush full of soap. I sprinkled a little water in my bowl and went to work. I kept working in water and it kept getting better and better. I think I could have worked in a gallon of water and had a bathroom full of lather but I quit when I felt like I had enough. The lather was dense, cushiony and slick as owl.... Well it was slick. I'm very impressed and think this may be the best $20 investment I have made since I started shaving.
  4. You're right, it's super soft. It loads and lathers great, and has great backbone.

  5. I was up in Edmonton visiting my parents this last week. While there I did an antique run.

I managed to find a vintage Simpson B2, the perfect little mate for my Coates EJ3. :D

I will be reknotting this one too in the future. Its the perfect candidate as the knot is nice and loose!

  7. Awesome! Hmm, is this soap easily available in Germany?

I have relatives in Germany. I would love to save the shipping if possible =P where did your sister in law purchase it?

  12. Today's haul from flea market for $1 is this safety razor probably from a Balkan state or Russia.

  13. Not yet. I think the handle will be ok - it actually feels rather comfortable - I'm mostly worried about how the NOS, vintage blades have held up.

  14. Very nice. I think its safe the say it's a Schick Platinum DE clone - and most likely from an East European country.
The "A" logo on the handle is throwing me a bit as I can't really place it amongst the usual suspects (Iskra, Astra, etc).

  15. Thank you for the heads up! I have similar thoughts about the razor and never seen it before. It's sanitized and ready to shave. I'll try it tomorrow, hope it'll give a nick free, smooth shave :)
