Does anyone have a recommendation for an Aftershave for those times when you get really bad Razor burn? Something that soothes and calms, but also knocks back the redness some too. Thanks guys
Have not had it in awhile, but I would go with witch hazel and top it off with some unrefined shea butter. I am assuming you are referring to a really bad case.
Lucky Tiger Aftershave and Face Tonic, really loaded with good things including aloe and witch hazel. Dave
Also, forgot to mention TSD Aftershave Milk. Among other stuff, it is made with shea butter and witch hazel. And you can get it in a variety of scents.
Yeah it's been 11 days since I ordered TSD stuff, and still haven't gotten a shipping notice. :-\ Lucky Tiger is really good, I have it, just didn't know if there was something even better ;-)
+1 for Stirling! I love the Witch Hazel & Aloe plus the balm really knocks the redness back and soothes the skin.
Re-read JoAnna's notice. She says to please allow 10 business days. Believe me when I say her stuff would even be worth a 15 business day wait.
Since seeing the light and joining the ranks of "traditional" shavers, I now seldom get razor burn(knock-on-wood). What I started with and continue to use on a daily basis is Nivea "sensitive" post shave balm. It works GREAT for me!!
Sorry, I can't relate, as I haven't had a case of razor burn since I started traditional shaving. However, Stirling after shave balms smell great, are soothing, and leave your skin feeling soft.
I use atomized generic witch hazel plus several drops of tea tree oil. I think I got both at Walgreen's.
You should really consider stopping the shave and doing something else. If your getting razor burn there is something wrong with your technique, razor, blade or soap. Once you get it straightened out you can go back to shaving. Aftershave should be more of a nicety than a necessity. Having said this if it's really bad try Aloe, hair conditioner or a topical lotion. You have removed the outer most layers of skin and it's much like a scrape at that point and you have to protect it for a day or two so it can heal properly.
Yep. Could be as simple as the minutest change in angle, depending on the razor, that makes all the difference. That was my first big leap in vastly improving technique, as I started out with SEs.
Actually it's because I swipe at this area right under my jawline near my chin that never gets BBS w/ 3 pass and I want it BBS, and it causes irritation. I'm trying going at it in a different way next time. Outside of that, I just cannot shave but every couple days (nor really need to as my beard grows slowly) with a safety razor otherwise it irritates the crap out of my face no matter what angle, blade, etc. I try. I suppose that's because I'm going for 3-pass BBS every time. Now if I wait 3-4 days between shaves (which is when a visible 5o Clock shadow has appeared), my shave is fine and little or no irritation. I don't know if that's what you would call Sensitive skin or not. I can use Alcohol AS and Feathers no problem, but I have to give my face time to heal.
