  1. Welcome aboard! There are several of us who have used the Feather Artists Club and/ or the CJB handle in previous focus months. @NCoxSTL , @wristwatchb , @Keithmax off the top of my head. I will be interested to hear what you think of the KAI one, since I prefer their blades.

  2. I agree with that sentiment! I have looked at the Kai razors but haven't tried them. Their blades, though, seem to me a better choice than Feather. That's probably a personal preference, however, as I find the Kai blades more forgiving. I also prefer Kai over Feather in DE blades as well. Super sharp like a Feather but not as harsh.
  3. Welcome aboard!
  4. Just remember vodka can be used as a lubricant to speed up the process. The judicious gift of a bottle or two could knock a few weeks off your waiting period. (Please do not give vodka to the mule. We lose more transportation that way)
  5. Oh, the memories...

  6. I was unaware they had video surveillance back then. Embarassing.
  7. August 3 Plans

    Gillette Slim G3 (3)
    Feather blade (1)
    Edwin Jagger XL Synthetic
    Trumper's Coconut cream
    Two passes
Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food

My August focus begins on Monday with a birth quarter Gillette Slim set to 3. I expect that it will be like driving a Porsche 911 Turbo in first gear, but I want to experience its full range of aggressiveness settings. I've never shaved with a Slim before, so I'm looking forward to it. I recently purchased it on eBay, and the seller was kind enough to share this bit of history:

"I got it from an estate sale in a neat old 3 story house that had a staircase on both side of the house in downtown Sandusky Ohio...I don't remember the name as I got about 4 years ago. I just remember how the two staircases curved up and met on the second floor to form a single staircase for the second floor, third floor and attic. It cleaned up nice with dish soap and a nylon brush. I forgot that I had it and just rediscovered it..."

I thought this was an interesting story, and it makes the razor a little more special to me. Have a wonderful week, and enjoy some great shaves!

  8. Herm, your Executive is a beautiful razor!
  9. Thank you! First shave was an easy BBS.
  10. August 3 Monday, shave 3
After yesterday's debacle with the Xpec I went with a sure thing today, super lather with AoS Tallow and Castle Forbes. Remembering my focus this month I focused on reducing my pressure. Three passes with the SR and a few touch ups. No DE since I have a big date tonight and will do an evening shave with a DE. Very light irritation so I am happy but just SAS so still a little disappointed.

    Homemade Pre Shave
AoS tallow + Castle Forbes lavender
    Simpson Tulip 3 super
    Dovo Bismark 2
    Dry Gulch bench strop (horse)
Alum block to keep my fingers dry
    Speick AS
    Castle Forbes lavender ASB
    Tom Ford Lavender Palm

  11. Yep I have a Feather and and CJB, they are both in the penalty box until I can improve with straights. @Colonel_K I will be watching your progress. I never tried the Kai but I find shavettes the most challenging razors to use. Glad to have you on board for the 30 day focus.
  12. I second that. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm green with envy.
  13. It may just be those Russian DE blades you're using. :happy097:

  14. If you include a small container of caviar we can expedite approval in only 3 days. Once the mule is awake anyway. Caviar and vodka.jpg

This shave was as good as yesterday if not better as I'm keeping sharp focus on my technique - I purposefully exaggerate 'riding the cap' as I find the efficient angle and slice thru the beard for a most satisfying shave

I'm tempted to move up a notch tomorrow.

    Cheers!

  16. In Sovet Russia, vodka has you for breakfast.
  17. Well then it's probably these sharp-star.jpg though on rare occasions it might be gillette-7-oclock-super-stainless.jpg .

  18. Day 1 - 2 August 2015

30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC!

    image.jpg
Day one of the real rule was a good experience. The Rapira seems to match well to the head geometry of the DOC. This razor falls in between Cadet OC (Razorock, et al) and Maggard in terms of aggression. It has performed well the first two days and I am liking it so far! La Toja is a lather bomb, and produced some of my best lather to date, like Arko level thick awesome lather. Alum felt like a cool stone and the Clubman congratulated me on shaving old school. About to take the IPad outside, it's still 75F and is a lovely evening near Denver! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a sterling Monday!
    :)
