I'd say late 1951 as they are 4th quarter production. Definitely carbon, possible edge corrosion. I'd strop before trying one and I'd start with a very mild razor.
New arrival today. A Vie-Long 12601 pony. 35/65 just the way I like it and a bit smaller than the 12705. Currently lathered up with Arko to get that wonderful wet horse smell under control.
Picked them up and will be hear friday. Can't wait to see them cleaned up. I think they are the black handle super speed, super speed flair, adjustable slim, and super speed flair?
The second razor from the left is the one that belongs to that blue case. The two lines on the adjustment knob mark it as an early model flare tip.
From what I can tell from Mr razor it looks about 1950's. I'll have to wait till I get my hands on it and see the date code.
The first flare tip super speeds were made in 1954, so yep. It's not a '54 though. My '54 came in a red case. '55 came in a tan case, and I'm not sure when the blue case model came out. Edit: looks like the blue case went to a pre-flare tip super speed. Do you have any better pictures of those razors?
Oh, I'm not using it. I received a 48-50 Milord that belonged to my grandfather, and the blade was still in it. Grandpa has been dead for almost 30 years, and there's no telling how long the blade was in there before that. The razor shows very little to no signs of use, so he hadn't used it in a long time.
Not Not yet. I had to lower the quality to upload. They should be hear Friyday night and will definitely keep you posted.
Those Super Speed's were/are the workhorse of Gillette's razors, nice mild, efficient shavers. Great haul you have!
Mail Call! This wasn't supposed to be here until early next week. Somebody pinch me. Birth year Aristocrat, yes, yes!
Not shaving related but found two used but very nice pairs of Irish Setter 7" work boots at one of my local haunts. Paid $12 for both. I'm pretty good at sanitizing and restoring vintage workboots to presentable condition, and these already were close to it. I've owned Red Wings, Iron Age, Knapp and Sears but never this brand before. Looking forward to wearing a pair come fall/winter.
