1956 Gillette Super Speed Flair Vulfix Super Badger (660) Georgetown G12 Scuttle Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #3 with my 6th Gillette Silver Blue blade. A nice shave, close and comfortable with no irritation. 2 full passes: Pass 1: WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Pass 2: ATG. This gave me a near BBS shave. There were a few more spots remaining after my 2nd pass than yesterday. I had to lather the left side of my neck and part of my right for my touch up. Some sections needed a little extra work, but everything felt smooth on my final rinse. The Aqua Velva stung on my neck today, but that didn't last long. After the Aqua Velva dried, I found 1 spot that still had a tiny bit of stubble on a small section of my left neck. Even though I went over that area three times and used skin stretching and blade buffing, the baby slipped away again and I was left with a near BBS shave. Tomorrow, another contender comes into the ring: Gillette 7 0'Clock Super Stainless (Green). We'll see how I think it stacks up against the Gillette Silver Blue. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Thanks. I appreciate it. As for the Feather on 1....yeah no danger at all. I'll post the full shave when I get home tonight but let's just say I know how to turn a Feather into a non lethal option.
August 8 Gillette Slim G3 (3) Feather blade (3) Edwin Jagger XL Synthetic Trumper's Coconut cream Two passes Unrefined shea butter I used a simple set up and had a nice, easy Saturday morning shave. Always ready to face danger, I enjoy the Slim on 3 with a Feather blade. I plan to finish the month with this set up and bump the Slim up to 5 next week. Enjoy this beautiful weekend!
Thanks! I was blindsided and quite impressed at the CT fairies insight and creativity. By the way, Bill the Cat spent some time in the USSR after selling secrets to them and defecting because of the love of his life.....Jeanne Kirkpatrick. The Soviets demanded a trade to send him back.
To those of you that enabled me to try my new Feather AC during my Feather focus, gee thanks There is definitely a learning curve. Things were going just fine until I got overconfident and took a slice off my right cheek. My new mantra is "go slow". My wife looked at the razor last night when I was loading a blade in it for the morning and said, "you are kidding". What did I say but, "don't worry, I'll be careful" . The look on her face was hard to describe when she walked in the bathroom this morning only to see blood running down my face. I am not going to give up, but have relegated this razor to Saturday mornings for a while where I can go slow. Back to the true Feather focus
08/08/2015 Razor – Gillette New LC Blade – Ladas (1) Brush – Zenith Pro Aluminum Boar B2 Lather – Tiki Cabernet Neroli Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L ’Orange I decided to take a weekend break from the focus on the Slim to use my Gillette New LC. I broke the rule of not using multiple new items in one shave. This is my first time trying Ladas blades and my new Zenith Boar Brush. The Ladas blades provided a very smooth and efficient 3 pass shave. I did have to touch up around my chin to catch the baby. The Tiki Cabernet Neroli has a wonderful scent of red wine and orange. I did have to go back and reload the brush after the first pass. This was an operator error with a new brush. The brush did shed 3 hairs or so but I expected that with the first use. I believe this will be a very good brush once it is fully broken in. The tips are already soft and starting to split. Finished off with the usual witch hazel followed by a splash of Fine L 'Orange. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Rufus, pardon my poor attempts at humor. I figured you were an honorable man, otherwise you'd shave with an electric. LOL I have no idea on your name. "F" works for me.
Welcome to the world of the AC! That didn't hurt much did it. Slow and steady wins this race. And keeping the angle shallow. You'll get there.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad shave with the Feather AC. You'll soon master it. It's the most challenging razor I own, for sure. Learning how to use this razor helped my DE skills in general, but then again...
Thank you. This one was replated by Nick at Sport Shaving. At some point I want to send him my New Deluxe.
Nick did an outstanding job replating my New LC. Sport Shaving has reasonable prices and a great turn around time.
I think so too. He does not do repairs or adjustments to my knowledge but I am more than pleased with the his plating work. The price he quoted me on replating the New Deluxe in rhodium was outstanding.
Good morning! I have family in town and will be scarce for a couple of days. I will be sticking to my rule, and will post late nights. Have a great weekend! ☺
Day 3 of 7 Leisurely morning shave using the FEON #172 for the third consecutive day. This morning's lather (using another 'Route 66' shave soap handcrafted by TSD's own Salty Belle. This is the third puck of her's I've had the pleasure of using. Her croap was/is an outstanding product!) was thick, slick and went on like slippery enamel—a perfect base for a close, clean shave with this fine J-West razor. Three-passes, plus touch-up…one small nick on the underside of my jaw…finished with the bracing 'Snake Bite.' Overall a DFS! Certain straight razors are easy to maneuver about the face and this J-West model certainly qualifies. Makes me wish I had learned to SR-shave on an easy razor such as this with a gentle, muted square point!
