I have found Shea Butter to work wonders on most kind of skin burns, not just the razor kind. I have also noticed that putting on a layer of Witch Hazel before applying the Shea Butter will have a cumulative effect. I has been a while since my last razor burn, but whenever I have some sort of irritated skin, this is my goto remedy.
As others have said, I find Stirling post shave balms to work well. I use the unscented version after every shave. I even use it as a moisturizer after a shower and I am not shaving for whatever reason.
I'd try to hold off on reaching BBS even though it is nice to have. And I always go for the Nivea A/S sensitive skin balm if I get a little razor burn from too much pressure.
IMHO. Maybe you are just trying to hard. Learn your beard pattern. It may take a while but afterwards you may find you don't need to try for BBS. It will come by itself. It did for me. I like the WH & Shea butter. Use it always. Toner then moisturizer.
I will add another vote for the Stirling products as well as the Nivea shave balm. Both have worked great for me. I ordered from TSD but did not get the aftershave milk, though I plan to order it when I next place an order. As for the TSD order, I ordered on either the 3rd or 4th and received mine on the 20th. As others have said, the wait is definitely worth it! Excellent stuff produced by Joanna.
The caffinated aftershave cream from Target is my go to when I chase the baby too much and end up with razor burn.
Stick with the balms for razor burn, or at least something with a lower alcohol content. Simpson Balm; Proraso, Soap Commander all produce a wonderfully soothing aftershave balm. Thayer's Witch Hazel is a winner and would be a welcome addition to your shave den.
Shea Moisture Shave balm is great for rough shaves, also Krampert's Finest Frostbite puts out the fire and provides nice skincare at the same time.
I quit chasing the baby at the bottom of my beard (the neck area). I still get it on occasion, but there is no reason to chase it, at least for me, and that leads to a more comfortable shave. I also use Proraso pre-shave as an immediate after shave, rub it in and let it set while I wash my razor and bowls then put on deoderant. Afterwards I use a splash on (yay Gabels!) and my face feels great with little irritation.
I have quite a few balms but the two that I have found to be the best for razor burn are the Proraso Blue Balm and a balm called The Cool Fix.
I'd recommend something that is part of my Rise collection-they now have an aftershave. It "calms skin discomfort" and "fights irritation" due to shaving. In addition, you get a slight Rise original scent fragrance.
there are a lot of great aftershaves out there and i mean a LOT. some people like all natural products and these can be used as an a/s: aloe vera gel, witch hazel, Unrefined Shea Butter, glycerin, coconut oil, etc. these can also be mixed together with some EO so the scent can be made to your liking or they can be used by themselves to sooth the skin after shaving.
