I managed to track down a vendor that still has the Super Iridium blade in stock. It arrives today and I am both happy and relieved that I have another 100 of these in my den. I just need to shave with it and confirm that they are not counterfeit. I have read somewhere that there have been a problem with fake versions of this blade in the past.
I also went in to a L'Occitane shop today. I just wanted a foot cream, but somehow I ended up with a brush as well. I am not sure how that happened, but I am exited to try it-

After waiting and getting a notice that told me I wasn't home (I was on the porch, mailbox is maybe 200ft away across a flat paved parking lot) in the mail, I called the post office and not 10 min later here came a disgruntled postal worker back to my apartment with my Gillette Sterling. I knew it wouldn't feel as robust as my vintage razors but I wanted something cheap and easy to use as a travel razor. The difference between it and my early ball end tech is about the same as the difference between Guinness and PBR. They both get you to the same place but. . .

It weighs about as much as my plastic frame lexan lensed glasses. The corner tabs to hold the blade seem to work alright. It looks mildly aggressive. I'm not going to try it until I have 2 days off work to let it grow back just in case it tries to kill me.

I bought this bottle of Avon Wild Country, not sure why? Maybe because it was so cheap. And a blade sampler from tryablade for my yet to receive Mongoose.

I received my SOC today from Ed. He threw in this nice little Omega travel brush and a selection of woods and a soap sample. What a haul! Received in trade.

    Received my C-MON A-4 brush.
It actually looks pretty decent. The knot is shot and there's a ding at the base of the handle. Apart from that...not too bad at all.

Sure, I will. I will need more time with it. I've used it twice and it is so much different than my only other brush - Omega Pro 48 which has served this newbie so well as I've experienced smooth sailing in developing lather.

This brush is shorter both in the handle and the loft. So my big fat hands will need to adapt to it.

I do like the Art Deco design though, which obviously is what attracted me to it.

Nostalgia moved me towards this purchase...
I know I have the type of razor my dad used, I remember playing with his Gillette adjustable. (Don't know what type he had so I got both! - a Fatboy and. Slim.)

Thought about him again recently when I saw that my adult son uses Old Spice deodorant, he's visiting from his home out of state. It took me back to remembering my dads containers of Old Spice A/S.

So I consulted with Old Spice Master Jedi @ObiDon who gave me some tips and I stumbled upon these. He pegged them as 1967 and 1980 (left, right). Thanks Don!

They just arrived today and I splashed some on and was immediately transported back to dad's den.

footnote...just yesterday I had my first session teaching my son to wet shave. I'm planning to send him off with his own shaving starter kit and I'll probably give him the 1980 and tell him that story about his grandfather.
    Cheers!

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

That looks a lot like the Rapira razor. I'm pretty sure they're the same, just different branding.

If so it's more aggressive than you think. Not a deadly weapon but not the safest you'll ever find either.

I was thinking about trying it tonight. I'm off friday so I'll have a day to heal if it leaves me looking like the new Deadpool.

Received a lot that I bought a few days ago with some razors, brushes and a strop. It was in a box that was padded very well with paper...but inside everything was thrown into a plastic bag...sigh....

    I'll go through it tomorrow...

I had some gift moneys chilling in my pocket since before no buy July. so I set out to fatten my razor collection with a few items that have caught my interest of late.
the first was a stahly live blade. after being high bidder until the last 10 seconds and losing, I ended up using the buy it now option. I think I may have ended up getting a better deal. the stahly I got was in great shape. it's marked as a model s6.

next I've sorta liked the looks of a rolls razor, while stahly shopping the rolls came up. I won it also. 20150813_063801.jpg 20150813_064203.jpg it's a46 model, as far as I could tell. everything was in nice shape. I'm currently reading our shave den sticky about them.

The Rolls razor looks like a cheese slicer and it seems like both the rolls and the Stahly would tear my face up. Hopefully they work out because they are cool looking razors!
