No time like the present to get restoring!
Having recently completed Lou's, I've about a dozen more in the works. So much work, so little time, it seems.
I do like these long summer days….

Not a great shave today, but I am going to figure out how to get this razor smooth and comfortable to use.

[IMG] 1-2015-08-14 08.21.07.jpg Caliano Trapani ( Bohler Stahl steel) Restored by Holyrollah ( Kevin) - I am happier than a pig in shi* with this razor. Kevin knocked this one out of the park
Soap - Caties Bubbles Midnight Dreary - They should re name this soap Midnight Dreamy. It is a winner. If you have not tried Caties soaps, you are missing out on a real pleasurefull experience
    Balm - Soap Commander "Passion"
Todays shave was very enjoyable and as BBS as it gets

Without a doubt, the rarest straight I own. Michael Price was a San Francisco gold rush cutler who's bowie knives have sold at auction for over $30,000. Little known fact: he made a few razors as well. I know of four, including this one. A collector/author named Bernard Levine (who wrote THE book on early California knives) had one, another fellow on SRP has spent a lifetime searching and has two, though one is incomplete. I have expensive razors, valuable razors, desirable razors, razors I've spent too much on, but none approach the rarity of this little guy. I've been offered ridiculous sums of cash for it, no intention of selling ever.

Also: discovered the Proraso white cream is a little thirstier than most creams. With a bit more water, it made an excellent lather.

Quite the history to that rare razor! Any shots of the tang stamp?

A few of my meager attempts...it is a very light strike, but in the right light is marked "M. PRICE SAN FRANCISCO", coincidentally the same mark on his knives.

It takes an unbelievable edge. I was just reading that some invoices from Price's old record keeeping were recently discovered showing bulk purchases of iron from Japan. It's known that he used chromium as the primary alloy in his steel, but interesting to think he was sourcing iron from Japan...Hmmm...

Very cool stuff, Mike! Love that jimped thumb notch!
BE careful not to sand off what remains of that stamp! :shocked003::D
Similar impact value-wise of a label on an original Escher vs a label-less one...

if one hones and strops a piece of Sheffield steel. then uses it to shave his face. is he permitted to post his results in this thread?
today I used a 46 Rolls razor. it went ok,a few issues. but mostly inexperience. tough to dry this little booger.
I dipped it in alcohol before and after, then dried best as I could.
does rubbing alcohol displace water? it's active ingredient is water.
    please respond if you know.
I think it truly is a straight razor on a stick.
