I have a soap from Joshua Tree Soapworks that I really dislike. The fact that it doesn't lather is one thing, but it smells too much of clay. Without the clay scent, it would smell rather nice. I have just demoted it to a bath soap, but only for the weekends, since I don't want to go around work smelling like a clay golem. When you consider the soapmakers idea of good lather, it is not too surprising To be fair, and I guess I haven't been that up until now. It gives a decent shave, the same way a thin layer of olive oil or other lubricant will. But it is in no way a proper shave soap
Mine is caties bubbles. Its a good soap with good qualities. Its just so over hyped. It doesnt have the post shave needed to be considered a top tier soap.
We are all different in tastes and likes so this is just my opinion - to me with a soap the most important thing is how it lathers and subsequently shaves, the scent is second on my requirements. If it passes those two tests it is a winner. If it has no post shave qualities I could give a shi* less because that's what AS's & balms are for. Nothing lathers as well as Caties & MDC IMO
Like you said we all have different likes. If im spending 20 dollars on a soap it should be able to do everything great. Including a great post shave. At a 20 dollar price there are tons of better soaps that lather just as good and leave your face feeling great after the shave. Agreed. While Williams and Arko are very similar in stink, I will use and tolerate the Arko because it whips up such a wonderful lasting lather. Once it is gone, though, I will not be getting more. I don't care how cheap it is!
