8/20/15 SOTD (Shave 11 of this Focus) Two days’ growth Prep: Hot shower Razor: Ontario Cutlery Co. 5/8 (Muted) Spike Point Strop: Drygulch Chromexcel/ Linen Soap: Jabonman Lima-Incienso (Menthol) Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman with Menthol added Jaboman soap is awesome. Very easy to lather, and gives a slick cushioned lather. When this tub is gone, I will be reaching out the guy in Spain to get more. The Omega 10066 is a workhorse brush that makes building a lather extremely easy, especially with this soap. I spent some more time with the hones last night, and I got this razor pretty close to where it needs to be. It was smooth and just needed a light touch on my first N/S pass. On my second S/N pass, I did find myself using a little more pressure, and keeping the razor at a shallower angle. I did some touch up on my neck and chin, and got my only cut today, while using pressure on XTG on my chin. Very small nick that the cold water rinse took care of. Started rinsing my face and realized I had caught the baby! I am still going to see if I can get this razor a little more keen, but am very excited about the progress.
Thanks! After all you are my inspiration to go back to the higher settings. I figure if you could do it then...right? Thanks also for the compliment on the razor!
When I first started shaving everyday, my face got irritated too. Luckily, it adjusted after a couple of weeks. My timing was good, as the refinery really started pushing the facial hair issue right about the same time as I started using a DE. If I tried to shave every day with a cart, I would have problems. As it is, unless I really go crazy chasing the baby, I am good from one day to the next.
Glad you decided to join us. I will be following your posts closely. I participated in my first monthly rule/focus in January 2015 with the maiden voyage of my Mongoose. It will be interesting to compare your thoughts to mine.
SOTD Gillette Red Tip Feather (2) Tabac cream Nancy Boy AS Balm Old Spice AS Wow, what a combination. BBS with little effort. Have a great day!
Just noticed this in the Custom Title thread http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-custom-title-thread.27373/page-57#post-878449 Congrats are in order (or sympathy) to our Grand Poobah of this 30-day shenanigans stable. He escaped their focus for a long time, but the CT Fairies finally got him! @Bama Samurai was finally caught saying something worthy of a Custom Title and will forever be known as Sir "with Laser-like Focus"! As someone who has benefited immensely from his mentoring, his CT is most appropriate. Congrats Chris!
I never congratulated you on your CT: Congrats! I am a little young for the Marx brothers, so I always have Hawkeye in mind for some reason when I see you avatar.
Ha! Hawkeye (and that series) was a huge favorite of mine in the day, still is. Probably because of the Marx-like personality they gave the character, and Alan Alda played it perfectly. It probably deepened my fondness for the quick-witted, somewhat satirical humor of the Marx Brothers. Thanks for the congrats and the reminder of M*A*S*H!
Kerry- welcome back! I was about to jump on The Haul and remind you to join up! Enjoy that sweet razor!
Thank you, but I still haven't figured out what is was that I wrote to earn it. I did my best not to say anything silly, I made it almost a year!
Thank you Chris! I'm going to run the rest of August, and all of September with the Mongoose! My birthday is in a couple of days and I was going to use my birth year/quarter Slim but I'm going full speed! Thank you for organizing such a fun thread! I hope I can contribute. This Sunday (Birthday) will mark 3 years of wet shaving for me!
Nice! It seems like a lot of guys are coincidentally gonna do SE razors in September. Glad your Mongoose arrived in time. The Mongoose has appeared many times here, guys really seem to love it, I assume you will also. I am gonna do an old Eversharp for September. I really enjoy injectors.
