I noticed on P&C they have a brown Virginia, a medium Virginia, and a VaPer. All flakes if I read correctly. Edit: P&C has 20% site wide, one day only, ending tomorrow morning.
So, I this saturday the GF and I are going out; and when I asked her, "Whatcha wanna do?", her response was, " Why don't we head down to Happy Jacks smoke shop? You've been wanting to go there.". How awesome is that?! Finally going to make it down to the smoke shop!!! Even better than that, when I said sure, we can stop in and check it out; her answer was, "Hopefully we can find some stuff you want that I can get you. ". I may be biased, buuuut I'm thinking I'm a pretty lucky dude. lol
Lucky isn't the word for it, you've very lucky indeed! You need to hang onto that GF! Does she like football too? Did you pick up anything at Happy Jacks?
I've been looking at these unfinished Savenelli pipes. What they're calling a Liverpool looks like a true Canadian, a Canadian having an oval shank and a Liverpool having a round shank. http://www.pipesandcigars.com/pipes/76225/savinelli-unfinished-series-iii-pipes/ What I'm really wondering is whether the longer stem on what they call a Liverpool would color anywhere close to the bowl? I would expect some difference, as you would handle the bowl more imparting oils from your hand, and the bowl would get most of the coloring, at least initially, from smoking. My worry is the long stem would hardly color at all. Any opinions here on POTD thread?
Lol, yes she does. Actually, we even met at a mudding event. My brothers and I run the Mud Pit for the venue; and she was standing near the starting line where I was set up in one of our jeeps; and she just walked over and set he soda on my fender and was like, "Watch that? I'll be right back.". That somehow struck up a conversation when she got back (mainly because I began to "complain" that she was gonna leave moisture rings on my fender due to not using a coaster, lol). And it just kind of went from there. She even called me this week to say, "Hey, you hunt a lot. I just bought a shotgun; can you teach me how to hunt?". Ummmm, yes I can. Is there anything else you can say to bestill my heart? lmao No, I haven't. We haven't gone yet. Heading down there this saturday. I'm hoping to find some deals though. Worst case scenario, she said I'll just have to put an order together on P&C, her treat, lol. I did notice they have a deal of 3 pipes (your choice of 9mm, 6mm or filterless), for $59.97. They're probably basket pipes, but still, that's $20 a pipe. Value in my book.
Oh my gosh...she goes with you to the pipe shop, likes jeeps and mud, likes hunting, and likes football! Man, you need to be finding an alter and say I do!!
Hmmmm, Idk. I do like the look of those. I usually like darker pipes, but they have a nice look to them. I can't say for certain, but I would think they would evenly color. The large ashwood churchwarden I have that was made by my friend started out a stark white (if you've ever seen freshly sanded white ash you know the color); now, years later, it is a golden oak color. Even all the way up the 18" stem.
I am looking at those also. Liverpool looks cool! I believe the shank would color far more slowly, like meerschaum.
I have looked at that special. I may try it just to see. P&C doesn't put crap on the front of their site normally. They probably smoke just fine. A suggestion for you is Wessex Standard. Great pipes. $40. Smoking and pipe collecting are two different things. I do both, and I love value. I have an eye for this stuff. Many of my best smokers are in the 35-50 range.
Marry her. Yesterday, if not sooner. You won't find a better match. If she will do all this stuff, it's because she's really into being with you. If you're ready, and smart, make it happen.
Oh, I absolutely believe they're good pipes. And while I dont like the fact that you can't pick the color, finish, etc.; at $20 a pipe, I really can't find any fault withe the deal. I mean, just ONE good pipe can cost that much. So it's like buy one, get 2 free almost, lol. You gotta figure for $120, you can have almost your whole weeks rotation of pipes. Seems fair enough to me. I have also been looking at a Nording Erikson pipe. They're decently priced, and an interesting concept. The keystone "filters" seem like they would absorb the moisture, yet not lessen flavor like paper or charcoal filters.
You write often about moisture. Do you dry out your tobacco before packing? What brands of tobacco do you prefer? I have looked at those Nordings, it's a pretty cool system.
