No problem. I received two free Personna Reds along with other free blades from try a blade during there red white and blue sale. I will order more of them on my next order from them. When I try a new blade I like to use it for a week straight and document each shave. I have no idea why my wife says this hobbie to save money has turned into an expensive obsession. Haha
I really hope these blades are " the one ". Hard part would be explaining to my wife that after buying a brick of 1,000 blades I still need to buy more to try out.
Hi all, Quick update on this mornings shave. Everything was the same as yesterday, except I turned the dial up to 5 . Yesterday I had it set at 3. Smooth , no tugging , no nicks, cuts or razor burn . Slightly closer than before , but still not as close as I would like. Tomorrow I will set it to my preferred setting at 7 and report on how it goes.
Oh , I almost forgot . I received an email response from Dorco. I decided to ask them directly if there was any changes to the blades. I will post the email tomorrow . According to them they never have changed the package or the blades. But they do have a new line of blades. Like the name Dorco wasn't bad enough, the new models are the STD line . Yep, STD-301. Night all.
Dorco STD? What are their Product Managers smoking? Maybe that's how they came up with STD. Smoke That Doobie must have sounded good over a bag of Doritos
This morning was my third morning shaving with the newly packaged Dorco ST 301 blades. Everything was the same as the previous shaves. I set the dial to 7 and got a smooth, nick free and razor burn free shave again. It still wasn't as close as I would have liked though. So on the 3rd pass ATG and touch up I cranked it to 9. Still smooth, no tugging. Nice and sharp. No nicks, cuts or razorburn. DFS minus a patch or two on my jawline. For me these are a great medium sharpness blade. I will continue to shave with this blade to test its longevity. Maybe in a more agressive razor it will give me a closer shave . Hopefully not at the cost of irritation or razor burn.
I'm not sure which razor would be more agressive than the 1968 ( N-4 ) Gillette Super Speed on the 9 setting. I have in my small starter collection : 1968 ( N-4 ) Gillette SS TTO Adj. 1954 (Z-2) Gillette SS TTO Adj. With case and blade bank 1959 ( E-1 ) Gillette Flare Tip TTO. 1951 (W-4) Gillette Black Tip TTO 1971 (R-2) Gillette Black Beauty Long Handle 1967 (M-3) Gillette Tech Ball End These below I don't know the years or on some even the type Gillette Old Type (?) Single Ring open comb ball end. Made in Canada with case and blade bank Gillette New Improved (?) Has the long bar in the head base.Single ring long comb ball end Shick Krona TTO Shick SE Injector with case Gem SE Micromatic with case and some weird adapter thing where the blade bank would go. Two Made in Germany travel razors in metal travel case. One has an emblem stamped into the case. I would like to try a more agressive razor for the Dorco 301 blade test. Thanks for the help. If need be I can include pictures to help.
Out of the Gillette razors I've tried, Techs, Flare Tips, Aristocrats, Super Speeds, Rocket any of the Adjustables are more aggressive. I have the mentioned razors and my Fatboy, 2 Slims, and BB long handle @9 are more aggressive. My preference is the Adj. @7
Same, 7 has been the sweet spot for me. My very new and limited knowledge is the open combs general are more agressive. Which if paired with a sharp blade provides the closet shave. There are many variables of course. That is why I used my OC travel razor with the new ST-301. While it still wasn't as close as I wanted , less than my Gillette SS on 9. I did notice it had some writing on it. So one travel razor has writing and one has an emblem. Both made in Germany. I will try a heavier OC tomorrow and see if I can achieve a closer shave. I will have a feeling that while these blades are smooth and non irritating, they may not provide as close as a shave as I would like to achieve. Of course so far they would make a fine travel or back up razor. For the price i may buy a brick and use them in my rotation for when i need to give my skin a break from the closer shaves. These are my findings , YMMV.
This is my other travel razor. The one with the emblem, maybe initials. Any one know of a site that way help learn more about these types of razors or maybe even a chart to try and find out the years they were made ? Thanks in advance.
