Scary, happy to hear everyone is safe and your house is still standing. Now you will have a great story.... albeit a scary one.
Today was day three with the Double Ring and a Feather. I have come to the conclusion that the Double Ring needs a milder blade. Still got a couple of small weepers. I'll throw a milder blade in it next month and try again. The Krona is next up and is much milder. I expect better results tomorrow. SOTD Gillette Double Ring Feather (3) Omega Boar TOBS Mr. Taylor's Cream Witch Hazel AOS AS Balm Florida Water Have a fun day!
August Focus - Slim and Feather AC August 25 Razor - Schick Krona Blade - (2) Brush - Vie Long 12601 Soap - Tabac Post - Cold water, Alum, Nivea Original Post Shave Yes, I know, it's Slim and Feather AC month but I decided to take a day and try out the Schick Krona I just received. Too tempting sitting there not to try out. This razor has a mild reputation so I loaded the Voskhod from the Mladost II trial on Sunday and got down to shaving. Chose the pony for the brush, Tabac for the soap and now I have a problem. Yesterday I decided the Omega 10066 and MWF was the perfect soap/brush combination. Today I'm not so sure. Great lather and feel from the pony today. Once I start lathering and feel that extra scritchiness my left leg starts shaking and kicking. Throw me a treat cause I'm a happy camper. Did a typical three pass shave with the Krona and it is a nice razor. It is mild, I will say that. While the Voskhod did very well I'm thinking a Feather or Kai might be a better choice for this razor. I think it could turn an extra sharp blade into a really nice shave. The Voskhod performed very well in it, though, although after lathering for the second pass I noticed a spot of blood on the right cheek. The area that I repeatedly butchered this month seems quite susceptible to weepers. Nothing major at all as it disappeared after the XTG pass. Did a full third pass, XTG neck, ATG face and finished the neck with a Gillette Slide, well I guess Krona Slide in this case. Finished with a nice DFS and no major burn from the Alum. I can see why people like the Krona and I plan to keep it in rotation. Next time probably a Feather just to see the difference. Off to buy SWMBO breakfast and then working a half day today. End of the month and all that. Hope your weather is as nice as ours!

Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Shambala Fantastic shave! Thanks Clint & Mark! I had much a better shave with the handle closer to my face, and longer strokes. I really like TABAC. A lot. My Ever-Ready 150 is a great brush. Gary did an amazing restoration! Shambala is a favorite. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
Well, here we are, 7 days away from a new month and, therefore, a new rule or focus. So, a quick review of my past efforts. January - 30 day Rule - Technique, technique, technique. Aristocrat/Voskhod/Omega Pro 38/Proraso green in the tub. February - Blade Trials - Not including Voskhod, trying a bunch of others to see which worked best. Super Max Super Platinum won the month, Gillette Rubie sucked. March - Vintage and Carbon - Four great old Gillette razors and four carbon blades from Treet. Nice way to spend the month and the Black Beauty is a great blade. April - Arko April with the CJB Shavette. - My first month of slice and dice but I got it down pretty well. May - MAYhem - Worst blades I could find, and the first two weeks with the worst Russian razors I could find, all with Williams. Only counseling and pharmaceuticals kept me sane. Second two weeks with better gear, same blades. Survivable. June - World Tournament of Blades - Russia vs. the World. Voskhod beats Bic, but barely. Fun month, lots of surprises along the way. July - CJB/Feather along with the NewLC to avoid too much damage. Another month of perfecting Artist Club style. Again, learned a lot, got some learning to go. August - Adjustable August - Slim and Feather AC. More Slim than Feather as it turns out but I've figured out several blades with the Gillette and like what I've found. September - ????????????? So, what are my plans for September? Some are doing SEptember and I do have a few options there. However, that will be the entertainment for the month for me. I have other plans. But I'm not going to reveal them just yet. Some may be shocked at my main focus for the month....but then....I have that affect at times. Here's to a great final week of shaves in August!
Sorry to hear about the issues you are going through! I pray He will provide His guidance and peace. I am very happy you have found some therapy with your shaves! Love your bowl! Where did it come from if you don't mind my asking?
Glad everyone is ok and the only damage was to some electronics! It is funny you said that about the menthol because I was thinking the exact opposite when I used my TOBS Lavender without any menthol. I think the menthol and the cooling it does makes me focus more for the very reason you think it gives you the poor shaves. Definitely a YMMV as always with shaving.
Not to speak for Seabs but that looks like the Knockout Shave bowl that is no longer available. I bought one when they came out and really like it. The man who makes them has an Etsy store where you can buy one without the K.O. Logo. Search Etsy for Pottersong.
Sounds like a great problem to have -- two great combinations of brush and soap that produce a wonderful shave!
August 30 Day Rule Prep: Shower. Clean and Clear Face Cleanser Razor: Lord L6 Blade: GSB Brush: VDH Boar Soap: Stirling MITA Post: WH, TSD Bourbon Vanilla AS Used my same GSB blade just to see if yesterday was blade or technique. Decided I could remove the blade during first pass if it was clear it was tugging or struggling in any way. First pass is my usual WTG on the face and XTG on the neck. Both passes went very well and the blade performed great. Angle was good and lots of audible feedback. Probably could have stopped after the first pass with a shave better than most I got from electric or carts. Moved on to my second pass. The second lather really seemed to explode all over and was so thick that I had to rinse the blade a few times more than usual. Definitely not complaining about the wonderful lather though. XTG on face and ATG on neck. Again, everything went smoothly. Really focused on stretching and the angle of the blade on the neck. No irritation, no redness, and no blood. I re-lathered my chin and a couple spots on the jawline and did some touch-ups. For the chin, I went ATG and it was sooooo smooth! Definitely a happy camper there! I went ATG on the jaw line in short deliberate strokes over the two areas and it cleaned up very nicely! Definitely gave a light touch with the touch-up so that it would not cause irritation. Reminded myself throughout the shave, no pressure and keep the angle. Cold water rinse, put on the WH, and let sit to see if any whiskers decided to pop out. Nothing. Smooth! Finished getting ready, threw on the bourbon vanilla AS and got a complement from my daughter about the smell. Will definitely take that any day! Happy Shaving!
