Chasing a better edge on my razors continues, and was successful. For today’s shave, I attempted to improve the edge of an already shave ready razor I used on Monday. Mission accomplished! I did some work on a fine Welsh Slate with slurry, and a Translucent Arkansas to polish this razor up. Today it was much smoother, and required less pressure.

I used a straight for the first time in over a month at least probably a lot longer. Surprisingly there wasn't much irritation but it just felt bad and tuggy while shaving. I guess it's time for a focus.

Your straight may need honing or a touching up with chromium oxide. Also, make sure you strop it around 50 laps.

    My morning shave.
    DE on chin and neck.
    Goldedge for the rest
    Proraso green cream
Simpson special S1 best badger brush
    Clubman original splash.

Single pass. No problem with this shave.
All scratches and nicks from my spikes have finally healed. Swmbo has not been on my case about my SR use. It's a good day

Beautiful razor. The point looks like it would require a light touch and careful attention.

First shave with my very own Takehana FEON (since Mike @entropy1049 introduced me to his, I've willingly jumped aboard the J-West bandwagon & acquired the one depicted below)...

Looks dynamite Kevin! A heck of a lot of razor for not a heck of a lot of money! I predict more J-Wests in your SotD pics in the coming posts!

    Day 5 and 6 ODH:
I've been busybusybusy the last couple of days, so just this morning had to take a composite pic of the last two days shaves with the ODH. 10 laps linen, 20 laps cordovan, and this sucker is ready to take down the Ardennes Forest. Smooth as silk, nimble, and starting to feel like an extension of my hand after six days! One more day to enjoy this l'girl and back she goes to Kevin. With a couple of passengers in the box for him to try as well ;).

    Day 7 ODH:

Well, thanks for the awesome photo Mike, really appreciate seeing the last SotD with the ODH!

In my fervor to get the ODH honed on the SG20K and stropped on fine Neil Miller linen and Cordovan, I forgot to take the photo before the package back to Kevin was sealed. But in conclusion, on day 7, 10 strokes linen and 20 leather before the shave, and after 7 shaves of my nasty tough beard, the ODH was as smooth as the first shave.

Honing the ODH was a joy. Very well behaved on the stone. You know when you put good steel on the rock and you can just feel the buttery smoothness as it hones? That's how the ODH behaves. The steel is on par with the best Solingen steel out there. It felt nearly identical to my Wonderedge on the hone.

The only problem with the ODH is finding one as nice as Kevin's. That beautiful jade green celluloid generally looks like fuzzy gray in the ones I find for sale. Some day...

So, as a substitute for the Day 7 ODH photo, I submit the "Fellow Travelers" in the box back to Kevin for his eval. We shall expect full reports :)
