These guys wear the same outfit I wear while shaving!

Well, what I would wear if I wasn't naked that is.

You're very welcome for the visual image you just got left with...

Well, for me it wound up being 4 for a daily shave, and 5 when I miss a day. I have a fairly light beard, however.

Today's shave, the last of this focus, went smoothe as silk. Slim on 4 with a Derby, Proraso green preshave, TSD Leather for Men soap, more Proraso with a cold rinse and Glacial aftershave.

DFS with no irritation at all! Tomorrow I'm going to try out the Gem for the first time, so I'm expecting the styptic pencil to get a workout, then on to the 30 day Tech and Derby focus for September.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Well if you figure out how to overcome that let me know. I'm past the fourth shave by a bunch and still have that problem. :angry032:

The tune, written by Earl Scruggs, the gentleman on the right in this clip, is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". It was used during car chase scenes in Bonnie and Clyde. Scruggs and his partner Lester Flatt are perhaps best known as performing the theme song to the Beverly Hillbillies.

7 is my magic number for all three passes, doesnt matter what blade I'm using.

Yes. After this month of focus, I think that 7 is the sweet spot, at least for me.

Another quick and easy two pass for the automatic smoothness! Glad this month is drawing to a close and so ready to start a new focus. Same products as yesterday, same good results! One week until College Football! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Have a super Sunday!

Knock out shave company. I don't see it in their website anymore. I like it a lot!

Thanks for the prayers as well!

Traditional straight shaving adventure has truly become a form if meditation for me this month. It's one of the few times of the day I can quiet my racing mind and care for myself. The shave was nice. Three passes wtg, xtg and atg. Cleaned up with the Merkur progress loaded with a wilkenson sword blade. Bbs.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

    Thanks,
    Eric

    @GDCarrington

Actually, it helps a great deal GDC!

It affirms that technique is the core issue, and it's why I'm on this site (one big reason anyways...) and I'm guessing, probably the same for most on this thread.

However, it is also excellent info that - as exacting as we attempt to be - there is a "feel" or "touch" or, as you say, an aspect of "art" to what we do.

As I ride the cap, I find I can adjust the angle up and down (slightly) with each stroke and have the blade "sing" a different tune with each adjustment. As I listen, I attempt to feel the difference on my face to determine the sharpest, yet smoothest angle for cutting my beard.

But it starts with making sure I'm centering myself at the beginning of each stroke by returning to the cap. I find this helps my focus. (YMMV, of course.) At times of lackadaisical focus, I've actually put the blade into my cheek at close to a 90 degree angle - ouch! So I've taught myself to return to the cap for each stroke.

Thanks for swooping in on our thread!

I also especially appreciate the information (graphic) you provided regarding the silo door height on the adjustables - confirming our suspicions regarding the below-the-nose shaving differences.

    Cheers!

    Great stuff Eric!

My hands (medical condition) will never allow me to use a straight, but even just with DEs and basic wetshaving, I'm right there with you - it's become another form of meditation for me! My goal is to keep it going - same to you!
    Cheers!
