SEPTEMBER FOCUS I have 3 SE razors and I've barely used any of them. The razors will be the focus, but I'll be mixing up soaps and brushes. I'm going to start tomorrow (yes, I know, it's still August, but Monday just seemed like a good day to start). I figure since I have 3 SE razors so I can work for 10 days on each one (Am I good at math or what? That degree in accounting sure pays off sometimes!). First up will be the mildest of the three (I believe), the Eversharp-Schick Model J. This was a gift from my lovely wife after she stopped at a local thrift shop. I have very little experience in the SE arena, so I'm going slow and careful, working on technique. Not a great pic; it's been cleaned since this shot. I'll get a better one when I have more time.
I do not have the BIC that did really well in your tournament of blades. Do you have other suggestions? I think I have crystal, personna reds, perma sharp, derby, Rapira platinum lux, and Treet. Do you recmmend any of these over the others? My plan is to eventually get around to trying them all, but that may take time.
I haven't tried any Israeli blades so I can't help you with those (Crystal, Personna Red). Derby is actually a good blade. Not fantastic but not horrible. Rapira Platinum Lux is probably one of my favorite platinum blades. And the Treet Platinum is good as well. You need to get a couple of Bic's and try them. Fantastic blade. There's a reason it beat the world side of the bracket.
I know some use the Alum to check their effectiveness of their shave regarding irritation. I personally (YMMV) find it to be too drying on my skin - even after rinsing it off after 15 - 20 seconds. I've made the switch to Witch Hazel and love the feel on my skin. I leave it on and add aftershave cream / splash as I feel so inclined. My two cents.
But if you start on August 31, won't that be 31 days of shaves? (just like an accountant, rounding down when it's for their own benefit! If he's anything like my accountant, he's probably going to the golf course on that day with my account paying his green fees!)
I am back again. Last month my focus was to get irritation free shaves with a straight. I think I accomplished my goal the last week of the month. For September my focus will be get closer shaves, at least DFS will keeping the irritation to little or none. I thought I would get to be the first Focus shave of September given my time zone but I have been beaten to it. Good luck to all.
Didn't get a great shave Sat night with the Gillette Old Type head. Managed a weeper and have a five o'clock shadow the next day. Will try again Tuesday. Will detail my travel set up in the next few days.
I would assume, but you've moved out of my area of expertise. I have not yet used a true SE Razor other than injectors.
My experience...Derby good, Crystal Good, Kroger (grocery brand) Israeli Personna good also. Many store brand DE blades, when available, are Personna Israel.
I am not sure I can feel bad for you and your bad shave when you post pics like this. Looks like a great time! Enjoy it!
