Sort of like citizens in the USA referred to as Americans although citizens of Canada and Mexico also reside in North America yet are referred to as 'Canadian' and 'Mexican.' So US citizens, often referred to as Yanks —although that term mainly referred to those from the north/north eastern region—perhaps should be called, "United Statians" or simply "Statians"—whose primary language is English, although the War of Independence severed ties to England; and Mexicans speak Spanish and the Canadians, French. And of course, lets not forget those inhabitants of North America labeled, 'Indians' —now popularly referred to as 'Native Americans' although anyone born here can be considered themselves under the same appelation…unless of course they are born in Canada or Mexico….:D
