Shulze Inox 6/8 w/gold etch - this razor came to me in mint condition about two years ago and I have only shaved with it maybe 4 times. Never really cared for it but never knew why. Today it proved me to be an idiot because it shaved as well as a razor can.
Soap - Caties Bubbles Midnight Dream - there is just no way to fault this fine soap
    AS- Floid Black Label
Brush - Chris Trimble "Brushcraft" handle with my own knot ( 28 mm FS finest badger)
Todays shave is the way to start a day out, smooth close and very relaxing

Nice looking shaver...what is it other than Damascus blade?

It's a Masto Livi custom. 8/8's, Spanish point, half hollow, Olivewood scales. Like shaving with a meat cleaver. An HHT-5+ meat cleaver. I had to hone it before this shave, and had forgotten what an edge this thing takes. Looked like I'd gone through a car windshield by the time I was done :shocked029:. But smooth! That'll teach me to get complacent when I shave.

Ask Jamie how much he loves Mastro Livi straights! :happy102:

Time to meet some old friends you may not have seen in a while.

    WD 24mm HMB brush
    Along with Proraso red soap
And introducing the new and improved 1830s? Wade & Butcher Bow.. With muted tip.

Stropped on handmade 2" x24" latigo strop with webbing.

    Rinse and Pat dry.
    Finish up with clubman original.

Dfs BBS shave. No scrapes. This blade is superb. Really holds an edge.
What a great day and wonderful shave. My use of the SR is getting better. I'm much more confident and comfortable with them. The extra measure of muting the tip helps.

    * (so get this, I'm shaving with this antique razor from the 1800s, blade is as sharp as anything you can buy new in the shave aisle at the grocery store... and the only cut I received is on my finger when i wiped the excess lather from the *@#*%, plastic container that holds the soap.....REALLY?)

Wow it is hard for me to believe with your experience using straights that you nicked yourself...sorry to hear that...it is one gorgeous looking meat cleaver:cool:

I do recall he did have a rather strong opinion on them! ;)
Happens to the best of 'em.
It is akin to the scratch golfer—when on, he'll beat the course. Off his game, the course wins.

Fellows, even Napoleon had his Waterloo.

It had been a while since I'd used this thing, and the combination of size, absolutely lethal sharpness (no kidding, HHT5+), and simple complacency all added up to a couple of nicks. Didn't quite have to scramble to find my styptic pencil, but good nicks none the less. Mostly as a result of not minding the tip when trying to get the breadth of the razor into the normal places.

Pics for size comparison with a more standard size razor:

Hart steel 7/8 rescaled & allen hex screws removed & replaced with pins by gssixgun - this one is a quality piece and a great shaver if not one of my best. The Harts got some bad raps for poor quality ( & it was well deserved) but I got a good one here
Soap - Caties Bubbles le Terre Verte " sandalwood"
Brush - 30mm Franks shaving silvertip - just a fantastic brush and a monster in size
    La Toja splash

Good to have the Hans back in the fold! Before returning it after a week's test-run, Mike dragged it over his 20k Suehiro Gokumyo and boy, is this razor a smooth shaver!

Talk to Mike & he'll give you his first-hand experiences in using one. Me? I just live the thrill vicariously through other's experiences with it! :D
Someday I may just cave in and buy one….

Henckels 72 Friodur w/gold etch - always an outstanding shaver
Seiffenglatt Cognac w/Coates Rose crème - I consider the seifenglatts to be a less than stellar soap but when mixed with a crème they produce an outstanding ubelather.
