SEptember Focus I'm still working with my Schick Model J and I've decided this razor is VERY mild. I getting decent shaves, but just can't seem to get very close, and it doesn't last. I really try to use a shallow angle and keep the pressure light. But the back of my mind keeps telling me I need to apply more pressure. This doesn't seem right, though. Do you detect my confusion? What do I need to watch/do to get even a DFS? Or should I move on to my Model G?
The G will be more aggressive, but remember to keep the head on the J as flat as possible to maximize its effectiveness.
You can get away with using a tad of pressure with these milder injectors Sir....I personally find that they work really with NOS Schick Platinum Plus Blades....I have used a Chinese Schick Injector blade in milder Injectors with unsatisfactory results for me anyway....These are all personal things of course but out of the current blades I do find that Personna blades work better for me in milder injectors including the Type G... September 5, 2015 Single-Edge SEptember Injectors and perhaps a GEM This month marks my first shaves with injectors. I’ll look to familiarize myself with them by starting with mild ones and perhaps move to experiment with others along the aggressiveness spectrum. I’ll be doing SEs all month. In the first week of SEptember I had great shaves with the J3 - "Golden 500" and an I2 - another hydro-magic Schick with a reputation for a mild shave, similar to the J3. I will be looking to spend a lot more time with these two razors in the future. Today I moved to the next Focus razor - a Schick G1. It is reputed to be a step up on the aggression scale compared to my first two razors. Mid-afternoon shave. Hot Shower Soap: Proraso Green Brush: Omega Pro 48 Razor: Schick Eversharp Type G1 Blade: Schick Injector (China) (1) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave Cream: Proraso After Shave: Proraso Green My initial reaction is that it probably is a bit more aggressive than those I've used this month. But my bigger takeaway is that it is taking longer for me to find the optimal cutting angle. The first pass (WTG) disappointed a bit in terms of whisker reduction. But that's probably more due to operator inexperience as I struggled to find the best angle. I must have found it at some point during the second pass (ATG) as my face is as smooth as ever! I will take a couple more shaves with this razor to get closer to figuring out the best angle of attack. But the results, even as I struggle to find it, are fantastic. With the late shave today, I'll probably skip tomorrow and be back on Monday. Hope you're having a great Labor Day weekend - brought to you by the folks who brought you the weekend! Cheers! RT
My shave today was a close to perfect as you can get when using sharp tool to scrape hair from your face. Even now 12th later there is so little stubble, one might think I just shaved a couple of hours ago. Tomorrow I am going to use a similar razor with an Ivory handle. It should be close to identical except for the handle color. It is an Eversharp Schick with no tabs. A Canadian 1937 patent. Ps. My photos have been acting up lately and not displaying. Sometimes they work and sometimes they do not. I usually post photos from my computer. Just something I need to figure out. Have a blessed night
Sticking to a very single-edged month. This morning was the return of the mighty Mongoose. I really, really love this razor...
That's interesting as mine is obviously different from your later Eversharp model....My Black Handled Canadian Type E was made by the Repeater Razor Company and it has some serious blade exposure...I have never seen another E Type like this one....Its a Beast...In fact this thing is unusable with Personna Blades...It will cut you face off with them...I have never seen another earlier one ..... My Canadian Black Handled E Type... The one next to it is also a Canadian E Type and you can clearly see that the Black handled one has the comb sitting back noticeably more ...I have measured it and it has a full One Millimetre more blade exposure and that is a lot in terms of razor and blade tolerance's in a Schick.... Its a Monster..... Billy
Aye Sir...The earlier ones are a tad harder to use than the later ones....I did things the opposite way around....I started with the earlier ones and when I used a more modern Hydro Magic it blew me away how easy it was to use it..
Tonight I used my early E2 with a EMS/Personna d1 blade...This shaves very close to the ER1914 as far as effectiveness...2passes and touch up was BBS. This is a Million Dollar Razor...I love it! It will be tomorrow morning when I'll really be able to compare this with the Little Lather Catcher... My last shave with the 1914 and 12 hours later I was still very close to BBS...and skin was very clean and soft...Tonights outing with this injector feels now the same....It would be really great to have an injector that could match my ERs 1914 and 1924....Those both shave so close and are so easy to get great shaves with...They are so loud...you can't miss, you know everything that is going on, on the road. By the end of this month, the pecking order in my shave cave should be fine tuned...
@Rufus T. ....Yo RU....I can't wait man.....I'm dying to see how you like your E type....With that lovely Butterscotch handle....I can't wait! Why don't you throw all caution to the wind and take her out for a spin...Bring her by the Injector and SE Party, I'll tell the bartender to fix you both up with some menthol mohitos 'on-the-house... If you're waiting til Monday anyway, you should have ample whiskers to keep her too busy eating whiskers to think of eating your face.... You handled the G Type with aplomb, I'm thinking the E should be very close...Just a tad more efficient on that first pass....Unless of course it turns out to be like Billy's monster...But Most the Es I have tried, I loved...I'm thinking, that one could be the One...I've seen Es in the past that became their owner's favorites...I remember a couple of fellows awhile back...one about 30 and the other about 60...They both discovered the E types about the sametime and it cured their RAD...Kind of like those R41s seemed to pick off a bunch of shavers around the same time. Cats were falling for these charmers and settling down....made honest shavers out of them...Kind of a drag in a way...Those guys found their shave-mates and faded away...ha,ha... Second thought.....don't try that E type...We like you hanging out and making the scene. ha,ha... You're too young to settle down....lol
There is a general consensus that the earlier E Type 1 & E Type 2s were the most aggressive....The Canadian Type E with a Black Handle was the most aggressive Schick Injector ever made but ever so smooth...It shaves more like a PAL Injector to be honest....As you move through the Schick timeline they tend to get milder as a rule of thumb, but after the I type they shave pretty much the same .... Billy
If I want to buy one off eBay. What kind and what cost should I be looking for? I want one thats in good condition. Schick injector is what I'm looking for
They are plentiful at the moment Sir....You will pay more for an NOS condition one but used ones are quite cheap....Your immediate decision will be based on how aggressive you want one to be or how mild you are wanting to go...If you are living in the USA they are cheap because of the low postage costs...If you reside in the UK or EU then its the postage that is the major cost....
