I had a pretty good shave yesterday with my type G1. I lathered up with proraso green and a semogue boar. No preshave or aftershave but it was BBS except for the neck which was pretty close to it. No irritation. I pulled a XTG pas and an ATG and called it done.

Double hash scattered and smothered, double bacon, pecan waffle and black coffee is my go to.

Today was day two with the Schick Model B and I have to say it's fun to shave with this thing. I love the feel of the big square handle and it shaves nicely. I find it mild and don't get a BBS with it but will keep it in the lineup just because I like it.

Tomorrow I move away from injectors and load a Gem blade in one of my Ever Ready SE razors.
Have a great rest of your Labor Day!

Interesting. They're space savers and stack well, but I think they lack swirling room.

    Razor - RazoRock TTO
    Blade - treet-platinum.jpg (2)
    Brush - Vie-Long 12705, the Horse
    Soap - Tabac
Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea

Well the calendar says use the EJ DE89l and Blendax today. The calendar can shove it. Not going back to that blade so let's Crazy Ivan over to the Razo Rock TTO razor and a Treet Platinum blade. Second shave on the blade since I used it once in the tournament of blades. I don't give the RRTTO enough love and Treet Platinum has always been a good shave. So why not eh?

The horse lathered up the Tabac well as always. Great scent to start a short day at work. And, the feeling of that 35/65 horse was just marvelous. Grabbed the razor and went after it. Very smooth, comfortable, close, no problems at all. This razor really feels heavy in the hand so it's no problem keeping pressure off. I love the fact it's a modern brass razor. I really need to work it in more. Finished three passes DFS with very little irritation as the Treet Platinum did its normal super job. Off to a six hour day of convincing people to buy tomorrow. Yeah, that's how working holidays rolls! Happy Labor Day!

September 7th - week two focus Dubl Duck Wedge
    Razor: Dubl Duck Wedge 5/8
    Strop: drygulch horse hide strop
    Brush: Omega 48
    Bowl: Dirtybird Scuttle
    Soap: Simpson Peppermint Rosemary Cream
Post shave: alum, TSD Iced Sub Zero
    Stirling unscented post shave balm
    Growth: 2.5 days

    Shave 4
Today's Monday morning shave was like a Sunday morning shave. I have defined my gold standard shave - Simpson Peppermint Rosemary with Stirlin Mentha preshave oil, dubl duck wedge on a multi-day growth. I love the way this cream easily works up to a thick, rich lather in no time at all. I think that I'm on to something; multi-day growth a wedge type straight is required for a more comfortable shave while the hollow straight tend to be moer comfortable as a daily shaver. Not sure what Kevin (@HolyRollah) and Adam's (@Drygulch) have experienced, but I'd love for you guys to chime in when possible. First pass with the duck just sliced the whisker's so nice. Could have stopped there, but please, it's a holiday and I have the time! 2nd pass xtg worked just as nice with fingers rubbed on the alum to help with the grip for face stretching. Could have stopped here, but please, it's a holiday and I can't help myself! 3rd pass atg on the face with the dd and saved my neck for a xtg with a Merkur progress on the lowest setting of 1. Overall beautiful shave.

I don't know if I've ever documented my straight pass so here it goes:
1st - WTG: N/S on face and neck
2nd - XTG: W/E on face and S/N on neck (really it's ATG pass on neck)
    3rd - ATG: S/N on face and 2nd N/S on neck

Unless I'm using a round point straight, I'll probably not go XTG on the neck - plus my large selection of DE's, I can get a very comfortable shave overall with this strategy. I think this week I'll try a daily shave with 1 pass with a 2nd pass for clean up as needed. Oh the meaningless shave goals I set for myself :).

    Cheers,
    Eric

I've had 4 shaves with the Astra SP in it. Happy with every one of them. The Old Type will lead off my OCtober focus. I'm looing forward to it!

Had my last out of town shave today. Another face lather with the C.O. Bigelow and the VDH boar brush this morning. Used my “traveling” Old Type with an Astra SP. This was shave #4 with this blade. Same lather I’ve gotten from the Boar brush and the Bigelow for the last 3 days: nice protection, but a little thin. Needed to add more cream to my face to get enough lather for my second pass. Maybe I need to get another badger brush for travel. I think I'd like something with a little more backbone and bloom than the Vulfix Super Badger.

You know how everyone says to shave with your DE using no pressure, to act as if you were shaving your sunburned face? Well, out in the sun far too long at Jacksonville Beach yesterday and boy did I burn. :angry032: So, I went slow and paid very close attention to pressure! Not too worry though, the Old Type cut through the stubble without irritation. Two passes and a tiny bit of touch up left me with another near BBS. Very pleased. :D Unlike the other two days, I skipped the Aqua Velva and went with some Banana Boat After Sun Lotion as an post shave balm.

Tomorrow, my focus shifts to my two Gillette Techs for the rest of September. The Old Type will return in OCtober.

Many guys like the wedge razors because of the ridgid 'feel' of the blade upon the skin. Unlike some of the large full-hollow grinds—which can have a rather 'delicate' feel on the face—the wedge grinds simply plow through any hair in their path with silent efficiency. I know a couple of guys who have very dense whisker (blue face) growth and prefer the wedge shape. Myself, I can go with either for variety sake. My beard is light enough that a full-hollow never has an issue and the wedges also do the job just fine. When I do have growth that is beyond a couple of days—a rare occasion— I do tend to opt for the half-hollow, near-wedge and wedge grinds.

    SEPTEMBER FOCUS - MENTHOL MONDAY

    Razor: Eversharp-Schick Model G8
    Blade: Schick
    Brush: Semogue 1320
Soap: Stirling Margaritas in the Artic
    AS: Aqua Velva

After a week of ho-hum shaves with Schick Model J I decided to switch to my G8. I would not have imagined how different the Schick Model G would be from the Schick Model J injector. I had heard that the Model G was more aggressive and I hoped it would be after the very mild Model J. I was not disappointed! :happy088: The feedback was the same, but I could feel the blade easier, or at least I was more aware of the presence of the blade. The angle seemed easier to find, which seems silly since the head appears almost identical to the Model J. I've held the two razors beside each other and really don't see any significant difference. But there obviously IS a difference. The Model G is a much better, much more efficient razor IMO. Though today's shave was a bit rushed due to a family issue it was still a terrific shave. It was smooth, comfortable and very close. A bit of feedback from the alum, but no big deal. It's 10:00 PM and I could go to work like this and nobody would notice anything. I've been "faceturbating" all day! (Hope I don't go blind!) Can't wait until tomorrow!
(Anybody need a slightly used Model J? :happy102:)

I think I just like the way they look. I've got a big 8oz tin can and it looks great but it's shallow and doesn't hold any soap swirling in. The plastic one does but just doesn't have that look.
