Well she arrived today. The more I look at that knot the more I can convince myself it was never used. The bristles are so straight and even with no splitting that I can see. It's soaking in conditioner and hot water now. So I'll see if it gets softened up sufficiently to use as an original knot.
Went antique shopping this weekend with my fiancee. Picked up three razors. I know two are Schick injectors. My guess is the caramel colored one may be an E and the cream/marble one may be a G. The cream one came with the box. My favorite pick up is one that I do not know much about but am definitely looking forward to getting cleaned up and shave ready. It appears to be a gold plated fatboy Gillette adjustable. It appears to be in good condition with some minor gunk buildup under the head. Otherwise it appears to be in good shape. The TTO works fine and all the adjustments click into place. I completely forgot to look at the date code, so will have to do that when I get home. Time to do some cleaning and getting them shave ready. In that regard, what is the best way to clean the gold plated fatboy? Scrubbing bubbles? Dawn? Something else? Thanks!
I have been hunting this one for some time and it arrived today. It showed up on the bay late one nite with a buy it now for $6. I almost had a heart attack before I could hit the button. With shipping the total was less than $15. It's the original Old Spice Hull Pottery Mug 01 that was sold from 1938 until 1944. It has the Ship Grand Turk opposite the handle. On the bottom are, within a rope circle, the words "Old Spice," "Shaving Soap," and "USA." Another fix for this Old Spice junkie, ahhhhhh!
To further my belief that it has not been used, after soaking in the conditioner and hot water for a couple of hours and a good rinse in hot water it still has that new boar funk. It's as soft as any new boar brush, and I fully expect it to break in nicely. A little Flitz and some buffing and it'll be perfect. Score!
Well as my daddy used to say, even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then. I was overdue for a good score.
you not only get to join the club, but I nominate you as vice president right behind Clint as the president. very nice brush.
Hear ye, hear ye - my 2 new Stirling Glacial Obsidian shaving soaps arrived today with a sample of the new pre-shave soap!
Well, a test lather to start the break in, and a little buffing and I'm pretty satisfied. I could buff out the tiny scratches, but a little character is a good thing.
