One of the many special qualities of TSD members are the Pay It Forward's, not with goods, but with knowledge. Friendship. Compassion. Yes TSD is a special place.
I fully agree. It's really the only forum shaving or otherwise I follow on a regular basis. I visit my motorcycle forums on occasion to research an issue but that's about it.
The last time I rode a motorcycle 1986 I used the front break instead of the back and flipped over the handlebars into a flower bed.
Anti lock brakes on motorcycles have made things much easier now. I have been riding since 7 years old. This Christmas will make 44 years I've been riding. My back issues have kept me off the bike most of the summer but if the weather is good and my back allows, I am going to take a short trip to the NC mountains the weekend of the 18th.
Day 2 of 7-day Test Drive: "There Will Be Blood" The second day with a new razor is often easier than the first—as was the case with this large custom straight razor. Having had one successful shave done, today's was anticipated was less angst than yesterday's first attempt. New soap puck (L'Occitane Cade—one of my favorite soaps) in a new Japanese ceramic bowl provided the glide for another VERY close 3-pass shave. I did manage, during the third pass, to catch the sharp tip of the blade on my cheek, causing a small bleeder. It happens. Still a great shave with this massive 'chopper' of a razor! Two down, five to go!
Wow, it's been a busy 8 hours in this thread! You guys gave me some laughs this morning I am really starting to like this Michromatic OC. This was day three with it and I got a very nice BBS with two passes and some touch up. No blood since day one. SOTD Gem Micromatic Gem blade (3) TOBS Grapefruit Cream AOS AS Balm Florida Water Have fun!
Nice! I love the idea of riding on the open road, here in the Bay Area traffic is horrific! It's dangerous on 4 wheels, I couldn't imagine it on 2. Yeah I could see your back being an issue, short and sweet.
September 10th - week two focus Dubl Duck Wedge Razor: Dubl Duck Wedge 5/8 Strop: drygulch horse hide strop Brush: Omega 48 Bowl: KO shave mug Soap: Stirling Executive man Post shave: cold water, alum, Stirling Executive man post shave splash Stirling unscented post shave balm Growth: 1.5 days Shave 6 Thursday morning shave - goal 1 pass. YAY! NO BLOOD! The first pass on my neck has never been as close as I'd like so thankful to use the merkur to clean up the neck for those time challenged morning shaves. DFS achieved 90% to a BBS which is a huge accomplishment for a morning shave for me. 1st - WTG: N/S on face and neck 2nd - ATG/XTG: w/ Merkur Progress DE with Wilkenson Sword (6 shaves) Cheers, Eric
Being a traveling salesman in the Bay Area, I can attest to the crazy driving I see on our freeways. I love the idea of riding again, but living overrides that idea. But I'll willing to jump out of a perfectly good airplane with nothing but a piece of Terylene polyester attached to my back!
I only have one shave ready wedge to compare, and its the same one you have. It is a very smooth shave everytime, with very little irritation. My face won't tollerate daily shaves, regaurdless of blade type. I am hoping to get my Spike Wedge cleaned up and going so I have another one to compare.
Hmmmmm.... I need to work some other soaps in this month for Science! Actually I just owe a couple of slots of review time and am doing well enough with the G type that I feel like changing one variable will be ok. If I had never used an injector before, I would keep to a strict rule like usual, but this month, I shall rotate soap a little bit. For science. I know you all understand. Hope everyone has a great Thursday afternoon!
Alright, this one was telegraphed a mile away ... Corresponding Theme Song! http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/corresponding-theme-song.46365/page-9#post-892877

When I read @Bama Samurai post, I immediately thought of the same song. The fact it was vinyl just made it better.
Prep: Hot shower with Stirling Glastonbury soap Pre shave: Bloom water from soap Brush: Stirling Kong Soap: Stirling Barbershop Razor: Schick J1 Blade: Schick China (2) Post: Alum, Stirling Lemon Chill WH/Aloe After: Floid Blue I tried something a little different today and boy did it pay off. After my usual 3 passes and touch-up I usually have a couple of patches on either side of my neck that show up when I'm doing my post shave. It's annoying to do all that work, catch the baby, only to have that little bit of stubble show up before I walk out of the bathroom. So today after I finished and was rubbing in the witch hazel/aloe, I could feel it and thought to my self, "This stuff is pretty slick and it's supposed to help with irritation, so...." I grabbed the razor and lightly went over the neck with some j-hooking in every direction, cleaned the razor rubbed a little more potion in and waited 20 minutes or so. Game changer. Closest most irritation free shave I have ever had bar none. I can't stop feeling my face. I will definitely make this part of my shaving routine from now on.
I did get a bit of a tan, but no one wants to see that. It was my first real vacation in 4 years, and my wife and I needed it so much. Non-shave related funny from Vacation: 6.5 hour flight from Phoenix to Hawaii. Toddler wanted to get out her seat and run around a bit. I'm a little wider than the asiles in an airplane, so I couldn't keep up with her and she got ahead of me. I have a chain on my wallet. As I started to almost run down the asile on the plane, it caught on an arm rest. The chain is handmade stainless steel and copper chainmail, and the leather on both ends is pretty heavy duty. It caused a 240 pound man to come to an abrupt face down stop in the middle of an airplane. At which point the todder turns around and anounces loudly to the plane, "Daddy you fell down! You're so silly!" The belt clip I just made for the chain is not quite so heavy duty, and should give in a case like that in the future.
