Like the title says, how much stuff do you have that is über rare or just about impossible to find? Razors, soaps, creams, brushes, blades, aftershaves, anything shave related, post it here. My stuff: 3/4 full Old Spice Leather AS Ralph Lauren shaving and grooming set Wee Scot Nano Kent H275 boar brush Bakelite handled Shake Sharp razor New Forest 2001 brush
I have plenty of gear that I would consider valuable or irreplaceable. Edit: I do have a Ever-Ready 150 brush that Gary did a rehab on that I would consider über rare.
Avon shave soap (the tallow stuff in the wooden bowl with the car sticker) Gold floral pocket razor 1932 Canadian fat handled tech Original Shulton OS AS had several awesome Wade and Butcher str8s over the years but sold most of them; was nice just o have held them. I was using them so figured they'd be better off going to someone who would give them a better home in a collection or as users since I was just hoarding. Not sure if any of those qualify or not.
I have two @GDCarrington customized brushes one @Ceferguson hand carved redwood heart brush/ 28mm golden nibknot @Jayaruh #7 hand carved original/ whipped dog silvertip @Tdmsu brothers bristles custom aluminum/ ace black badger @oscar11 / omega knot @clint64 customized Rubberset 400/ whipped dog high mountain white knot I've also got one of my dad's and two of my granddad's razors.
I also have a Old Spice cologne bottle that's either 7.5 or 8 ounces (I don't remember ) that our resident Old Spice guru @ObiDon told me was collectible.
I'm not sure if it is rare enough to be called unobtanium. But I have a few items that are not too easy to find anymore. A little under a kilo of Klar Kabinett Three Sir Irisch Moos shave sticks About fifty Gillette Super Stainless from Australia Twenty something Spoiler blade Fifty something Personna 74 A few dozen other vintage Gillette blades I know nothing about. Five older Erasmic shave sticks. And a few older Camelot shave sticks that I hold very dear. That's about it
Shaving related: •1946-47 Gillette Super Speed •Original Aramis shave soap •Avon Imperator a/s •early 1960s Avon Men's Bath Oil (fantastic stuff). •Stanley Home Products Points North a/s •1950s Ingram shave cream •A few of Gillette's first run stainless blades, plus several 1960s stainless coated hospital blades. •A pound of excellent carbon blades. They don't seem to be sold as much anymore. Non-shaving: •Three perfectly working Parker 21s - red, blue and green. Daily drivers. •1987 Citizen 10 bar dive-style watch. Apart from a busted one at auction, I've found exactly one mention of it online. Citizen Japan said all they know is it's from '87, the year I enlisted in the USN . A jeweler and watch collector told me yesterday it's likely worth well more than I gave to have it refurbished. Most of these are not particularly valuable in themselves but they are, or are getting, fairly tough and/or pricey to obtain. But it's all just stuff.
If I'd pick some of my items, top of my head, that I know it would be a real pain to replace, I'd say; Razors Tradere OC in original box, Gillette Double ring - PAT APPL'D Gillette Psycho w/ original key M.Peroni in original box Thier-Issard No 17 straight razor, Daveso Garanti, vintage dual-comb, Schick Type F in original bakelite box, Weber razor in original box and papers iKon B1 (all black) in original box Schick Platinum DE in opened box Swedish Strivel in orignal bakelite box Swedish Swing "1935" Leresche #77 Leresche "77 Prototype" Wilkinson Royale NIB Wilkinson T70 in original box Other Klar Kabinnet Original Fitjar soaps (isros, shea pleasure and sandalwood in wooden bowl) Pinaud vintage glass bottle w/ glass stopper/applicator Old Spice Hull model 01 But, maybe the hardest thing to find again...my Rockwell 6s that works well
Not 'unobtanium' rare, but definitely hard to find… • A 1930s-era Otto Deutsch Hans straight razor in good condition. • A 1930s-era German-made Bohler-Stahl with the 'Star of David' logo. • A 2011 Mühle R41 Grande • A circa-1905 Rubberset brush (pre-'sterilized' era) • A Ceritfyd 'Red Imp' 700c strop—in good condition. • An old 'Ever-Ready' treasure chest blade holder
That "Klar" word tasks me. Then, yes, I have just a bit of that rarest of elements. I'm torn about whether to replate it.
My Barbasol FH is also a bit worn. It seems that either these razors were truly loved and used a lot - or the original plating isn't very good - as it's very rare to see one w/out any plate loss.
I'm not sure about unobtainium, but these are not easy to find. I did get most of them on the bay over the last 1 1/2 years, and you may need some Unobtainium to buy them. All of my Old Spice bottles have original product in them, and smell great. All of my shave items get used regularly, except for my Gillette toggle. You can click on my Jedi Den on the bottom of this post to see pictures of some of them. I'm not sure what would be considered "unobtainium"? I do have a couple of Old Spice shave mugs, an Old Spice shave brush and an EverReady SE Streamline set(stropper, razor and case).
If you look at all the history on when the change from the Hull Potery to the Wheaton Glass Company mug you see that they used the term ' around 1948' to describe the date for the switch. I have seen other stories that said there was an overlap as the production started up, so taking a little license with the start date, mine is a 1947, which also is my birth year
