Thanks very much on both counts. I believe that is the first time anyone liked one of my pictures. TSD has been good for me.
Day 11 - SEptember 2015 30 Days with a Schick G Day 2 with this soap and it was another automatic two pass smoothness! Finished with Alum and TSD 2x Iced Barber Shoppe. TGIF! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for sharing! I just watched the entire video. What a fascinating process making these works of art. Makes me want to start shaving with a straight.
I was going to skip shaving tonight since I did whack off a mole last night and I have an odd 2am-10am shift but, I got packages in today. I cheated some and skipped ahead. The GEM called to me. I was afraid of this razor. I've never used a carbon steel blade before, never used this type of razor before and to make it worse i used Taylors peppermint cream tonight, another first. It lathered up decently in the bowl but it seemed to dry out of the face before I finished my passes. I'll have to experiment later to get the water ratio right. I kept adding water and it kept looking great but by the end of each pass it had started drying on my face still every pass. The razor worked well. I was timid so I probably didn't get as good of a shave as i could have from this. I did 3 passes, a WTG and 2XTG going opposite directions. The only blood shed was when I caught the scab from yesterday. There is little redness on one side of my face but no pain so I expect it to go away soon. I still have have stubble on my neck but the rest of my face is realm good. Because of the neck I'm calling it CCS but it is probably a DFS. Now the itch is scratched and I'll use the Schick untill the 16th to make up today. I removed and dried off the blade and it and the open razor are in my air conditioned bedroom waiting in the cool dry air until later this month.
September 12 Focus Shave 9 I have grown to favour larger, heavier blades with thicker grinds so I decided to test my preference today. Today I used my first nice straight razor I acquired, a Genco Easy Aces 5/8 full hollow razor. At the time I thought it shaved great but as I acquired bigger razors with thicker grinds he ended up on the sidelines. While this is a beautiful razor it now feels like a toy after using my other razors. The shave went well, 3 passes and no blood but it was just average DFS, not as good as I have been getting from my bigger razors. Applied the alum and very slight stinging, a good results from the irritation perspective. I can't bring myself to sell this razor but he will be back on the sidelines and tested again in the future. I am glad you liked the razor. Later own try some of the Stainless coated blades. I should have included a couple in the package but it slipped my mind.
it was very sharp I could feel it. That's part of why I was afraid of it some. I'll get a tryablade sampler at some point and try the 4 blades avalible from him. Maybe I'll get 2 or 3 for less the $2, why not
Sounds like a good idea to me. I am using a GEM 1912 for my shave later this morning. Once I got by the size of the razor head, the GEM razors to give me really good shaves. Plus, I like the sound they make as the whiskers get mowed down.
SEC Football Saturday 09/12/2015 Razor – GEM 1912 Blade – GEM Stainless PTFE (4) Brush – Olivewood with TGN Finest Fan Lather – Mystic Water Lime Post - Witch Hazel and Fine L’Orange So glad it's football season again. A very good 3 pass shave this morning. I chased the baby but just couldn't quite catch it. Since I don't use GEM razors as often, it takes me a least one shave to get back in the groove. My wife bought me some shea butter facial soap at a festival yesterday and I tried it this morning as facial prep. I can see myself using this more often. As usual Mystic Water was finicky but the rewards more than make up for the extra work. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange.
1953 (Y3) Tech Vulfix Super Badger (660) Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #2 with the Rapira Swedish Supersteel in my birthday Tech. A very comfortable easy BBS shave. Used about a 1/2 inch dollop of Proraso on each side of my neck and squeezed out the water from the Vulfix Super Badger brush and did a face lather. Added a hand scoop of water twice as I went. The lather was thick and creamy. I had more than enough for the shave. 2 full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck (wings to center today). Passes 2: ATG. Very comfortable, much closer today, almost BBS at this point. Did a cold water rinse and a minor touch up and the baby ran to me. The Aqua Velva was quiet today. A nice easy BBS shave from the Rapira Swedish Supersteel in the Tech. I did not even have to chase the baby. Hope y’all have a great weekend!
SOTD September 12, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Feather Professional Lather: Tiki 1920's Barber Shoppe Brush: Omega 10098 Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine American Blend I've been struggling with my asthma the last 4 day's, we've had high temperatures and poor air quality combined is disaster. Today I'm feeling a little better the temperature will be lower and the air quality much better. I had a really nice shave, Tiki 1920's is fabulous! The Mongoose really is worth the wait and price. I love it. The best piece of shaving gear I've purchased. Ever. Hey! The Omega 10098 is a winner! Every time when I shave I think of this thread and the friendships built here.
