Country Post Office, Flag indicates Dog Days of Summer. I believe it was 94F with UV index over 10. Cropped, framed, no filter.

 

Even the dark side needs flowers.

The eyes of the bee are so cool. Nice shot.

 

Do you use any filters when you take photos?

 

Thank you, I am quite happy with it myself. I did not think it would be a keeper when I took it, but it turned out better than expected.
But I still prefer this one:

Nope no filters. I have a few cheap filters, like polafilters and gradfilters laying around somewhere, but I have never bothered to use them.
They can be great tools, or so I understand, but since I haven't been infected with fad (filer acquisition syndrome ) yet I have not found much interest in using them.

 

My first photo of the Milky Way! This was a successful test shot before shooting a panorama last night. This was taken with my new lens.

Its late in the season, so the galactic core is low and behind the hill, nonetheless it is still an amazing sight! The hazy star clusters sure add to its glory!

 

Wonderful shot. I have always wanted to try that. But can't find a place that's dark enough nearby.

I just got back from spending four days on a friends ranch in the Texas Hill Country.

 

Thanks! This was about 30 min out of town (looking south). Unfortunately the light from a neighboring town is drowning out the bottom.

I've got a plethora of resources and apps to help find a dark sky. Let me know if you want any of the info.

 

I used to do a little star gazing, but haven't had the time in a while. I live just outside the Birmingham, Alabama area, so the city lights are a problem for me. When I retire in maybe 3 or 4 years, I plan to look for some of those dark sky areas, do some gazing and photography.

 

Photo question. I am making a trip to Acadia NP in a couple weeks. Does know how much light saturation there is from the adjoining environs? I am wondering if I will be able to try to take a picture of the stars as the one above? Would the top of Cadillac Mountain provide a proper setting?

Thanks. I believe I have got a few apps myself. The problem is more me being lazy and don't want to drive 1-5 hours to take a picture.

Maybe when I am older and wiser

 

I hear you. I found a nice spot to shoot an hour away, I just don't want to drive that far by myself after being up all day.

 

Just one hour for a really dark sky? I wouldn't even think twice before hopping in the car
