Ordered! Now if you could just tuck a note in there with the razor, extra handle, shave cream and box. Something like "Congratulations on winning this month's free giveaway." Keep invoices with $$$ out of it, and I'm off to practice surprised expressions in the mirror. Edit: thank you for doing this Shane. I know the box wasn't a priority for you. It means a lot to those of us who wanted one, though.
Well don't forget that the boxes were my idea originally! I'm thrilled that we found a way to get them out into the world because I think they are awesome. I just know that as soon as you guys get your razors/boxes and post pictures, I'll start getting emails saying, "how do I get one of those cool boxes?!".
You mean...pictures like this? (Note: photo is of pre-production razor and box and may not be an accurate representation of the production versions).
And you can reply, "The same way you get a Gillette Big Fellow or Richwood, you either buy it new or hope one shows up on eBay." Edit: I'm half tempted to order a second box to scalp on eBay. Shane, what's the breakdown of orders? Did most people order the short handles, long handles, or both?
Sweet! That means I'll be getting a rare razor, since I fall into the 'both' category + box, in satin. It would be pretty cool if I was the only one getting the two handled set in satin, but I'm sure there's a few others. Oh, Shane, what are the chances of getting your new handle in clear plastic, with a micromachine blackbird inside? I've decided that's my new favorite look. edit: I do actually have a micromachine Blackbird that I'd be willing to sacrifice for the cause.
I don't see why not. Since they will be cast individually I can do almost anything I want. You'll have to find one without those hideous wheels... Edit: But that's a project for the future. For now I'm going to make one handle in one color in one size.
Yes! No! It's okay, I can wait. Speaking of waiting, I finally found that razor I told you I'd send you. It was in my dopp bag. Since it's less than a week away from the Seattle Shavecon, I'll take it there first before I send it off to you. Thanks for being patient.
Brush is coming along nicely. Had some setbacks and had to redo the finish a couple times, but I started the mold today. More importantly, backers should look out for a good news update in the next couple days. It's looking like production is actually ahead of schedule at the moment. Of course, don't get too excited; in this world "early" means "on time". Still a lot of variables that will play into shipping time, but we're looking pretty damn good at the moment.
Missed this question on this forum. We landed on a smoky cedar. Backers should have received notification of the new update today. For those of you who aren't backers, here's the quick rundown: 1. Timeline looks good for on-time December shipping. 2. Soft cream has been traded for hard soap. 3. From the update: "... the Blackbird handles will not mount flush on other razor heads as I had planned. In my prototype, the handle and base plate fit together via a unique interlocking connection. I had promised to eliminate this feature to ensure that Blackbird handles could be seamlessly swapped onto any DE razor head. However, my machinist has informed me that the extra material at the end of the handle is required in order to machine the handle. In order to machine the grooves, the handle must be held in place and that material provides the perfect clamping location. To remove it later is possible, but requires excessive time and expense that is not feasible at this time." This basically means that other handles will work just fine with the Blackbird head, but the Blackbird handles will not sit flush against other companies' heads. They are perfectly functional, but don't look proper. Blackbird head on other handle: Blackbird handle on other head:
I guess I can live with that. The extra handle length isn't going to interfere with the boxes at all, will it?
