I received my shipment from P&C, now I've got a lot of tobaccos to try over the next few months. Here they are as received, and after jarring. I read the rule of thumb was to use a jar size 4x the tobacco weight in ounces. The 16 ounce jars worked pretty good for the flake, but was a bit tight for the loose cut 4 oz bags. The 16 ounce jars fit very well in the top shelf of a bookcase I have though, larger jars wouldn't fit as well.
I tried the Stokkebye 306 English Oriental Supreme in the Weber Golden Walnut tonite. A nice hour and a half smoke. The Latakia was definitely noticeable, but not overpowering.

The Chacom Canadian I recently purchased is a fantastic smoker, and I think it looks classy. The link to The Briary's Lovat I believe is better described as a Lumberman, as it has a saddle bit and oval shank. Possibly one reason you don't see more long shanked pipes is they require a piece of briar to accommodate that length. Right now, this family of shapes is a bit of a passion. I'd eventually like to have one of each shape. I became interested in these after seeing a picture of someone's collection of about 200 pipes, everyone of them a Canadian! I'd bet there were a few variants in that number that would classify as a Liverpool, Lumberman, or Lovat.
Good news the dunhill did not taste like the tin note....bad news the flavor was underwhelming. I think all of the great reviews had my expectations too high....i think ill enjoy some of the english blends but this wont be a regular in the rotation....i cant help but wonder if the rave reviews had more to do with nicotine buzz over flavor...cant wait to try something new! Thanks to all of your guys' help
If you don't like it now, you're correct to move on to something else. But if you jar that Dunhill and come back to it in a few months or a year, it could make a difference. Aging it could help it, although I believe that makes the most difference with Virginia blends. Or your tastes could evolve to where you appreciate it more than now.
I included a MM unfiltered stem in my last order from P&C, and it was a good fit. I used it to smoke a bowl of Former's Birds Eye Flake this morning and it smoked well, so now I can try to repair the vulcanite stem without having much repercussions if I screw it up. The Former's Birds Eye Flake was very mild, probably the mildest I've tried.
Here's an update on the pipes. The Yello-Bole smokes wet, I guess because I removed the stinger. I couldn't put up with not being able to pass a cleaner thru the stem though, so the stinger had to go. Even though the Medico has a grain pattern and isn't stamped brylon, it must be brylon unless Medico produced pipes in a material other than brylon or briar. It doesn't build up a cake but a black sheet forms inside the bowl that will flake off in large pieces and it smokes hot. Well, at $5 each it was still a bargain just for the learning experience.
I use Mr. Brog pipes more than any of my others. They are a good user type pipe. As well as very lightweight.
Not at all, although it wasn't strong. It burned very cool and was easy to smoke, very nice to start the day with while sipping a cup of coffee. It didn't alter the coffe taste noticeably. I think it would have been a bit too mild for after dinner though.
I second the notion on jarring it and trying it again later. In the end, if it's still not working for you- I run a service disposing of unwanted tins of Nightcap and 965. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
