When I first saw the thread "Seattle Shave Con", I was wondering if shavers in Seattle were being conned.

I'll have a little more variety as it gets cooler and colder. For instance, I'm planning my call to the Barbershop bullpen to get Stephan's Bay Rum warming up.

My second day with the Parker SR1...everything went well until I nicked myself (same spot no less) :angry032:. Other than that it was a great shave. At least today I didn't trim my mustache inadvertently. I think I like SR shaving...

Razor - Gillette 1918 Old Style
    Blade - [IMG](2)
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
    Soap - Proraso Green Tub
Post - Cold Water, Alum, Proraso

Why yes, that is the Rimei blade you still see there. Curiosity wouldn't be satisfied until I tried it in a different setup. After all, producing a good shave in the cheap and mild Rimei razor was a surprise, but was it a fluke based on that razor? How would the blade handle a more aggressive razor? Inquiring minds, well my mind anyway, have to know!!! So, the question is, what razor? The Edwin Jagger DE89l is a bit more aggressive but still not a beast. None of the techs seem appropriate, the Schick Kronos another milder razor, superspeeds? Nope. Ah, the RazoRock TTO. It's more aggressive than most of its type so I'll.....wait a minute......that's still a wimpy choice. The 1918. Yep, that's the one. An aggressive old timer that loves to put you to the test. Great razor if you can wield it, but unforgiving if you get sloppy. And, with the blade sitting on my face like it does with that one the Rimei will be exposed if it's really a crap blade.

Chose the Pro 48 and Proraso. Back to my basic setup for that. I trust the lather every time and the menthol and eucalyptus smell makes you not care so much about the bloody spots. So, here we go.

My expectation was that it would be a bit uncomfortable, but the 1918 can do that. Some blades are better with it than others, and I just can't believe a Chinese blade can be good in it. First pass WTG and I had changed my mind. Definitely the aggressive feel of the '18 but the blade did a great job cutting with very little noticeable drag. And, the first pass result was good. XTG on the second pass and again that aggressive feel but no tugging, no drag to speak of and I finished that pass with a DFS. No reason to tempt fate with an ATG or any G-slide work. It's a good enough shave and that's all I need today. Surprisingly the Rimei blade did a remarkably good job in the Old Style and that makes my day. Never thought I'd find any Chinese blade that could step work that well.

I'm not planning on stocking up on this blade because there are better options out there, for me anyway. But, if push ever came to shove, or I was stranded in China after the slow boat threw me off, at least I would have a go-to blade. Better that than being forced to use the Puking Pigeon.

    image.jpg Razor: Merkur 34c HD
Brush: Rubberset 400 #3 WD 24/50 Silvertip (Jedi Lightsaber)
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Neutrogena Balm, Vintage Avon 1981 California Perfume and Co. Anniversary Bay Rum
The Merkur 34c HD does give me some burn if I over buff, but you can get away with doing that because this razor is so mild. The TOBS Grapefruit smell great and lathers up with my favorite Silvertip. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 400. I screwed in the Feather, and checked the alignment and was good to go for my first pass WTG. A little rinse to see how we are doing and relather for a XTG pass on my face and ATG on my neck. Some more lather for touch up on my neck and we are done. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some Neutrogena Balm. Nice smooth shave with just a little burn. Now for the Vintage Bay Rum. With the wind chill here it's 87! Y'all have a good one!

    Beau Brummel meets The Colonel
I decided to see what The Colonel could make with FFBB, and it was grand. Excellent lather, maybe not as easily made as with my HIS. I pushed the Astra SP blade to a fourth shave and it showed its age... I got a nice shave, but it was a little draggy, so out it goes.
I decanted my Clubman into the bottle I got with Chiseled Face Sherlock... I'm still working on how to get the label transplanted in one piece.
