Day 19 Another great shave tonight with the Ever-Ready 1914 SE. Cleaned up with the 34C and all is good. The Captain's Choice products are good value. Can't wait to try TSD Bay Rum soap and after shave tomorrow for Shave Den Sunday. Heavy rain here tonight so indoor picture.
The Crazy Ivan in SEptember! September 20 Razor - Gillette 1918 Old Style Blade - (2) Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Proraso Green Tub Post - Cold Water, Alum, Proraso Why yes, that is the Rimei blade you still see there. Curiosity wouldn't be satisfied until I tried it in a different setup. After all, producing a good shave in the cheap and mild Rimei razor was a surprise, but was it a fluke based on that razor? How would the blade handle a more aggressive razor? Inquiring minds, well my mind anyway, have to know!!! So, the question is, what razor? The Edwin Jagger DE89l is a bit more aggressive but still not a beast. None of the techs seem appropriate, the Schick Kronos another milder razor, superspeeds? Nope. Ah, the RazoRock TTO. It's more aggressive than most of its type so I'll.....wait a minute......that's still a wimpy choice. The 1918. Yep, that's the one. An aggressive old timer that loves to put you to the test. Great razor if you can wield it, but unforgiving if you get sloppy. And, with the blade sitting on my face like it does with that one the Rimei will be exposed if it's really a crap blade. Chose the Pro 48 and Proraso. Back to my basic setup for that. I trust the lather every time and the menthol and eucalyptus smell makes you not care so much about the bloody spots. So, here we go. My expectation was that it would be a bit uncomfortable, but the 1918 can do that. Some blades are better with it than others, and I just can't believe a Chinese blade can be good in it. First pass WTG and I had changed my mind. Definitely the aggressive feel of the '18 but the blade did a great job cutting with very little noticeable drag. And, the first pass result was good. XTG on the second pass and again that aggressive feel but no tugging, no drag to speak of and I finished that pass with a DFS. No reason to tempt fate with an ATG or any G-slide work. It's a good enough shave and that's all I need today. Surprisingly the Rimei blade did a remarkably good job in the Old Style and that makes my day. Never thought I'd find any Chinese blade that could step work that well. I'm not planning on stocking up on this blade because there are better options out there, for me anyway. But, if push ever came to shove, or I was stranded in China after the slow boat threw me off, at least I would have a go-to blade. Better that than being forced to use the Puking Pigeon.
I'd love to hear your opinion of the TSD Bay Rum vs. the Captain's Choice. I haven't tried any other bay rum yet besides TSD and just interested in comparisons.
9/20/15 Schick J3 with Chick blade TGN Synthetic TSD Yin Yang Myrsol Formula C sample Another great near BBS shave this morning. The TSD soap really is a very easy to lather and very slick. I think I've settled on my travel set up with this razor and soap. I survived the weekend motorcycle trip with my back actually in pretty good shape. Glad to be back home. I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.
Razor A: Ever-Ready 1914 WW1 SE Razor B: Merkur 34 C Blade A: Gem Blue Star SE (1) Blade B: Feather (6) Brush: Fendrihen Silver Tip Badger Black Faux Handle 22/49 Soap: TSD Iced Bay Rum A/S: TSD Iced Bay Rum Day 20 An amazing shave this afternoon with this above combination. The Shave Den Bay Rum soap builds an outstanding lather. I left the container open while I soaked my brush and when I returned to the bathroom the whole room smelled of Bay Rum. The A/S was the same distinct fragrance but more lasting than the Captain's Choice Bay Rum. The same applies to the TSD Bay Rum Shave Soap. IMHO I don't believe you can compare the two as (Captain' Choice) TSD product is by far a better soap and A/S. IMO. I had to change the blade in the Ever-Ready this afternoon.
I am the worlds worst at stopping to take pics but I did take 2. One from the highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway. And one sitting of the bikes while I was sitting in a rocking chair looking at the mountains with an adult beverage.
Great pictures @clint64. Nice bikes. I went through the Blue Ridge Mountains driving a transport through a storm when they had just re paved the Hwy and there where no white lines on the road. Scary. Thanks for your pictures.
It's a beautiful area that's sorta lost on me since I live here all the time. I'm nearly under the shadow of Mt Mitchell in Yancey county.

Love the mount Mitchell area of the parkway! Definitely few things better than sitting in a rocker with an adult beverage looking out on the mountains! Sounds like it has been a good time!
That helped me out too. Thanks! Since I already have the soap I think I'll just order the TSD A/S to go with it.
Day 20 - SEptember 2015 30 Days with a Schick G Broke out the balm for Shave Den Sunday (thread by @Douglas Carey ), and it set the tone for a great smooth shave. These injectors practically do it all themselves in about two passes. A real joy! Last weekend of summer was beautiful on the prairie. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a sterling Monday!
