Here's some quick phone pics. I'll get out the DLSR and take some better pics one of these days. Maybe even give it it's own thread. Little bit of history here, This is a Bazin's Shave Cream container. This shave cream was sold from about 1820-1890. This example probably dates from about 1850, give or take a couple decades. The container is biscut (bisque) earthenware, and the design is from a copperplate engraving transfer. I suspect that modern glaze transfer methods can't capture the level of detail they achived back then. The MWF is for size reference. The level of detail is incredible. Just absolutely beautiful. Now that all being said, it looks like it will hold about an ounce, ounce and a half, maybe two. I'll have to measure it. The bottom is about a half inch thick, so it won't hold much. Edit: it holds 1 1/2 oz. (about 43 ml). From my research, shave cream was normally sold in 1 oz. 1 1/2 oz. and 2 oz. sizes. Though 3 oz. sizes came later. Judging by the vintage, almost full 2 oz. bottle of Ingram's that I snagged out of the travel box, shave cream was both thicker and more concentrated (less water in it) back then. The Ingram's shave cream smells rather vile and medicinal, but lathers beautifully. A tiny dab creates mounds of lather.
"I've never seen a purple cow; I thought I'd never see one. But, since I've seen a purple cow; I'd rather see, than be one!
These turned up yesterday. A wonderful belated birthday present. A lovely angel hair brush and my first ever shaving bowl, both from Fine shaving accoutrements . I tried it today and the lather just explodes in the bowl.
It was time to reorder Country Club Southern Oud AS. I decided to add a jar of their new tallow soap. I chose Cahaba Blues: Cahaba Blues has notes of citrus, woods, and tobacco which creates a fresh and warm scent. He included a sample of Fern too. It is another of the new tallow line.
Bespoke 14 day custom razor case made by bespoke custom maker Francesco Meneghini in faux Croc with Verdi Bandiera velvet interior.
My old Wostenholm 'I-X-L Improved Swiss' Frame Back arrived. Blade tang will require some restoration work, but the original horn 'coffin case' scales looks to be in fine shape considering the age of this razor (circa 1850-1855)
Picked up 2 SuperSpeeds from a friend at work who is slowly selling off his collection...the one on the left is Made in England...no date stamp. The one on the right is made in USA...no date stamp. Both cleaned up well. Not easy to identify when there is no date stamp!! Late post: The one on the right (Made in USA) is a 1950 Super-Speed Late-late post: The Made in England one on the left is a 1949 Aristocrat Jr. (I checked on Mr. Razor...hopefully I am correct)
Gold plated Gillette Sensor LNIB. Unused, with all paper work, cartridges, etc. Shiny lil thing....for being a 25 year old cartridge razor
I already have it filled with what was left of my Barbon shave cream, as the cap on that tube was broken. At some point I might need to empty it and make molds from it for my other project. We'll see. It's both being used, and being displayed. It won't be a shelf queen. Also, got my Rooney in today. ^^^ Post bloom, and filled with vintage Finest hair. I'll get better pictures up in a day or two.
Received a Personna Floating Head from 1973 (I believe the black handled one is from 1972). It took about 22 seconds before I decided to liberate it from it's packaging as I will have to shave with it.... Will be great fun to see how it works out for me......
