The shaving set is what I won in the many drawing at the Seattle shave-con last Saturday (donated by www.RazorsEdgeWorks.com of Yakima Wa) Razor) Wosty 5/8 near wedge barbers notch Washington works SOAP) Flannel in the rain (made especially for this event by Phoenix Shaving,LLC) Brush) TGN Synthetic Knot AS) Ogallala bay rum Vanilla (also another prize from shave-con) Witch hazel The razor came shave ready, just some stropping before the shave. I had a comfortable 2 pass shave with a DE cleanup. IMHO the Washington work Wosty's are some of the better vintage blades around I really dig these old razors...I own 3 with one having been customized by HollyRollah (Kevin) The brush and soap combo worked good...not great I could not get a dense lather, maybe it is the brush. The croap had plenty of slickness and protection just not a dense lather Keen blades & smooth shaves Gents
Next time your lather seems a bit thin, simply take a few more swirls in the product, and whip some more Or maybe it's just the soap
That new synthetic didn't lather anything like my VDH Boar does so my next shave I will use the same soap and my boar brush to eliminate the brush...the new brush is very stiff. Do synthetic brushes have a break in period? Take care.
I have only one synthetic (a Jack Black), and there was no break in, it was good to go out of the box. Astute, changing only one variable at a time.

No, it is your brush & your choice. Actually sounds pretty cool. As a teenager and young man my barber would sr shave me with a haircut. I always enjoyed the big monster talc brush
I have been trying to use a straight for at least 5 consecutive shaves before switching it up. It helps my technique. I got this one on a trade a few weeks ago, and cleaned it up and touched it up last week.
SOTD Thursday *DD Goldedge SR 6/8 round tip Original cracked ice scales *Simpson Special S1 best badger brush 19mm knot *Proraso Red shave soap in 1953 Shulton Old Spice mug *Strop made by me *AOS Sandalwood Balm *Clubman Talc *WD 24mm HMB brush as talc brush *clubman original Today I went totally out of the box. I wanted a hot lather shave. So instead of just hot tap water, I soaked my brush in boiling water. I then went and poured boiling water in the mug. Not so unusual. Right? Then put the mug in the microwave for 30 seconds. At 30 seconds proraso red liquefies and bubbles. It looks like whipped honey. A damp brush with the tip dipped in the soap gives an insane amount of hot lather. When it cools down it looks like soap again. I never knew this. It's kinda cool, science of shaving lol. Any other experiments like this?
Be careful with heat. I ruined a nice Thater by getting it too hot too many times and not all soaps & Cremes respond well to a lot of heat
Traded a Slim, Black Tip, Blue Tip, and a Black Handled SS for this razor and a Herder that I haven't gotten ready for shaving yet.
The soap is cheap and easy to get and I figured it's not good on my brush. I'll find out more when I shave again for the wedding
