Cool. I am glad you're enjoying them. The stuff goes along way so we both should be stocked up for a while. I really liked adding them to Witch Hazel and AS that didn't have menthol.
The Crazy Ivan in SEptember! September 23 Razor - Schick M2 Injector Blade - (1) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea Ivan approved a return to the plan today so it's back to SEptember with the Schick Injector M2. This is the razor I first shaved with waaaaaaaaayyyyy back in the day. Bought it with my own money and I don't think I even cut myself that first time. Anyway, it's a nice bit of nostalgia. Now to see how it really performs. I decided on the BoSFat for the lather today, again just because it's my favorite and I want the best for the first go around with an unfamiliar setup. The M2 is an adjustable and when you open it all the way up it's a bit intimidating. That's quite a blade gap. Looks more like something you'd slice cheese with or perhaps do some woodworking with. I decided to start with it on the lowest setting today. Keep it mild to start. WTG was good. Smooth, no issues but I could tell by the finish how mild it is at the lowest setting. Went XTG then ATG all over finishing with a slide on the neck to get to DFS. I have to say I like how the razor handles and feels overall. It's just very mild so I am looking forward to adding some gap tomorrow. I'm planning to open it up halfway and see how it does. The injectors really do a good job. I remember now why I liked it when I began shaving and why so many still like it today. Definitely worth the trip back down memory lane.
Today's shave with the Schick Type J will be my last shave until Sept 27th. I drive 750 miles home tomorrow from vacation and then head out Friday on a three day fishing trip.
September 23 Gillette New LC Feather blade (1) Shavemac two-band silvertip brush Trumper's Coconut shave cream Two passes Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food Hello everyone. I've enjoyed some great shaves with my Mongoose and Feather Super Pro blade this week. Every shave with the 'Goose is a good one; however, I don't find that much difference between the Super Pro and the Pro blades. For me, the Super Pro provides a slightly improved shave. Tonight, I decided to try out my New LC in bronze just back from Delta Echo Razor Works. A big shout out to Jay Delta Echo Razors for his superb work and to Vince Rufus T. for the razor itself! With a day and half of growth, the New easily delivered near-BBS results with no sting at all from the alum! All things considered, this is my favorite razor. I plan to use it for my OCtober focus, which begins this weekend. Have a great Friday!
Wow Charlie, looks like an entirely different razor. What a beauty! It's great that you've made it your own and it satisfies your shaving passion. I feel similar with mine after only a few shaves as well. Almost makes me wish October started tomorrow! Best! RT
Day 23 - SEptember 2015 Equinox Edition 30 Days with a Schick G Day two of the soap test continued with a new blade. I actually really enjoy this scent. The Bay Rum from @TheSoapExchange performed like a champ, but I didn't care for the scent. However, the scent of the Barber Shoppe is quite pleasing and light. A 15-20 second load on a damp Plisson set up a really slick and protective face lather that yielded BBS on two. I would definitely consider buying this soap from The Soap Exchange in the future. I will test one more day, but I already know the result will be satisfying like today! The first day of autumn was warm and dry on the prairie east of Denver. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a triumphant Thursday!
I may skip OC and go to a Fatboy that was so generously sent to the prairie by our man on the scene in Kentucky.
I wound up helping my son complete a science assignment for school and by the time we finished it was pretty late, so I did a quick shave. I decided to try out the new Gem Micromatic open comb that will be part of my rotation for OCtober. It's a single edge so I'm not cheating on SEptember. I loaded up a new Gem Teflon coated blade and picked out Stirling Ozark Mtn. for today's soap because I wanted to be sure of some slickness, and Stirling never fails in that regard. First pass WTG, not bad, but not as smooth as I've come to expect from the injectors I've been using all month. Second pass XTGS again not bad but not great. Third pass XTGN noticed a small weeper on my right cheek near the jaw. Final pass ATG and starting to feel some irritation but figured In for a penny in for a pound and started chasing the baby. Should have listened to the voices. The alum lit me up like I haven't felt in a long time. Cooled off with a little witch hazel and aloe. In the end I mostly caught the baby but paid for it with some significant irritation. I might run the blade through the Kris Kross blade stropper I won in the TSD raffle and see if it improves the shave. One thing is for sure, I'll either have this thing dialed in by Halloween or it'll be in the PIF pile.
1954 (Z1) Gold Tech Vulfix Super Badger (660) Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #3 with the Gillette 7 O’clock Super Platinum (Black) in my Gold Tech. Near BBS shave. Face lathered, then did 2 full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck (top to bottom today). Pass 2: ATG. A solid DFS at this point. Tried to slow down and pay attention to the angle of attack to try to get better reduction from my passes, and was rewarded with less touch up to do. Did a cold water rinse followed by some targeted touch up in my problem areas. Unfortunately, I didn't use a lot of lather in some of the spots in my later touch up, and ended up with a couple of tender spots. Another near BBS from the Tech and the Gillette 7 O’clock Black. A slightly closer shave than yesterday. I tried to slow down and let the razor do its work, but just couldn't help myself in trying to get that last little bit on my neck and paid for it with some irritation. Tomorrow I revisit the Lord Platinum Class.
SEptember Focus Day 23: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling British Leather SS Injector Type G Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling British Leather AS After the past couple of days of baby chasing on my neck and the resulting irritation, I was determined to not repeat. So I went with a WTG pass followed by a XTG pass. Then, I put down the razor, put my hands in the air, and backed away from the sink. Well, I didn't do the last two, but I did manage to put the razor down. I didn't do my normal neck clean up as this where I get tempted to keep going. I am going to call this a CCS. I am definitely not as smooth, but I am irritation free. I am ready to start my Thursday. Hope everyone has a good day!
having skipped some shaves because of crazy times at work and surprise hospital visits from home I'm excited to get back to it. My Gem bullet tip is going to get a workout on 2 days growth as soon as the kids leave for school.
09/24/2015 Razor – Mongoose B2 with Triad SS Helix Blade – Feather Super Pro (9) Brush – Ever-Ready with TGN Finest Lather – Strop Shoppe Baker Street Post - Witch Hazel and Myrsol F/Extra A fantastic near BBS shave this morning. First pass was XTG and the second ATG followed by a few touch ups. The Strop Shoppe was very easy to lather and super slick. I really need to remember to use this soap more often. Finished off with a splash of Myrsol F/Extra and I am ready for the day.
