1. A package arrived last night and so didn't get to open it up until this morning. It contained what is a rarity for me— an NOS straight razor. 99.9% of the razors I come across tend to have plenty of mileage on them and although some may be in very good condition, some wear is always obvious. So I was pretty excited to unpackage what was advertised as a 'Vintage NOS F.W. Engels Leader 6/8"

Opened the packaging to reveal the box...

Within the box, the razor was wrapped in the factory paper...

    Unwrapped...

No edge on the blade— dull as a butter knife—so next stop is the hones...

  5. I could shadowbox that and display it as art. Beautiful blade my dear sir, very nice razor.
  6. :( Bummer. My computer here at work (yes, I'm on lunch!) isn't showing the pics.
Gotta wait 'til I get home.
  7. ::Thunk!::

(That's the sound I made falling on the floor after looking at your pictures!)

  8. That is a great looking razor.
  9. Stunning. Never seen a NOS straight I don't think.
  10. They do pop up on rare occasion. @Jamie Mahoney seemingly finds those rare NOS razors by the bushel! :D:happy088:

  11. My Leader is not nearly NOS, but it's in great shape. It takes a keen edge and shaves wonderfully.

  12. Lovely...and glad to hear! :happy088:
That shape (square point) is what the majority of FW Leaders tend to have. Rare to find an oversized round-point.

  13. Shows how well I pay attention. I didn't even notice that yours was a round point. That ups the rarity factor by a large margin.
  14. Beautiful score Kevin NOS razors that's what I live for I love them there's no finer feeling than knowing you are the first person to use a 50 or 60 year old razor, I get a real buzz from knowing that. PS I scored a NOS myself today can't wait to unveil it in a few weeks.

  15. Nice!
Here's the odd part for me, not having had an NOS shaver of this condition before:
Should I be feeling 'odd' or have some mixed feelings about taking a pristine razor such as this and honing it up & actually using it?
I know the razor was made to be used, but I can help but feel something of this vintage and in this condition that should be framed and preserved....

Nah, the heck with my feelings!
    I'm shaving with it!

  16. I have a single edge Dime Razor that I found NOS in a hardware store, made around 1920. I can't bring myself to shave with it, becuase once I do, it won't be NOS any more. Unlike a straight however, this is a proprietary blade, and I couldn't get a replacement. If I had that straight I would use it. And like it. :)

As for not shaving with it, NOT. I could not help myself, were I you.
    Gorgeous blade, my friend. Enjoy!
