I used both this month and I think they are comparable. If I had to pick one, I think it would be the 1924. I'm interested to hear what you think.

I'm smack in the middle right now, having had just two shaves with each. Of all the single edge razors (wedge-type) I've used this month, I feel that these were the two that had the most potential for for me. I'll need to spend some dedicated time with both beyond this month. But the month sure expanded my horizons regarding my choices.

    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Shave #2 with the Lord Platinum Class in my Gold Tech. A comfortable BBS shave.
Face lathered, then did 2 full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck (top to bottom today). Pass 2: ATG. A solid DFS at this point. Did a cold water rinse followed by some targeted touch up in my problem areas, and the baby came home. The Aqua Velva stung, but less than yesterday.

Another nice BBS shave from the Lord Platinum Class in my Gold Tech. Looking forward to OCtober! :happy005:

    Have a great weekend!

    Razor – GEM Feather Weight
Blade – GEM Stainless PTFE (6)
    Brush – Zenith Boar
    Lather – Mystic Water Lavender
Post - Witch Hazel and Myrsol Agua Balsamica sample

I'm just not on my "A" game this morning starting with lathering MW Lavender. I thought I had this figured out but this morning the lather was sub par for the last 2 passes. Thank goodness this stuff is super slick or it would have been ugly. Using the GEM FW with coated blades I ended up with an acceptable shave somewhere between DFS and BBS but it seemed like a lot of effort to get there. On the positive side no nicks, weepers or irritation. Finished off with a splays of Myrsol Balsamica and I am ready for a restful day of watching football.

Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost
    Razor: Gillette Aristocrat
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue
Lather: Catie's Bubbles Le Marche Du Rasage (LMR)
    Brush: Stirling Synthetic
Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate
    Aftershave: Fine American Blend
Quick observation. Mongoose 3 pass smooth as silk shave. Gillette Aristocrat 4 pass plus touch up smooth as silk shave. IMO the Aristocrat is one of Gillette's best. Catie's LMR is so dang nice, I need to use it more often.

So true. I should just pick 1 or 2 brushes to use with the stuff and figure those out.

One thing I like about the 30 day focus threads is that I learn a lot. I am getting very consistent shaves with no irritation. In fact I am changing the title of my entries from SOTD to
    SSDD (Same Shave Different Day)
    Ever Ready 1924
    Gem Stainless (3)
    Rubberset 400
    TOBS Grapefruit
    Nancy Boy AS Balm
    WSP Beard Oil
    Florida Water

I haven't died. I haven't stopped shaving. I have been preparing for a move at the end of the night and also working pretty hard to get in shape for a pt run coming up. I suck at running so a good bit of extra effort was required.

That said, I had a great shave the other day and another one yesterday. Both with the R41 and the Ladas. Thanks again drygulch for sticking those in there. I'll be ordering some of those after my move.

    The Crazy Ivan in SEptember!

Razor - '59 Ball End Tech
    Blade - gillette-super-thin-platinum-thailand.jpg (1)
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
    Soap - Arko Stick
Post - Cold Water, Alum, Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Running out of SEptember fast and I have two more DE blades to try out, says Ivan. So let's get with it! First up is the Gillette Super Thin from Thailand. We already used the Vietnamese version with pretty good success so on to Thailand to see if there's any real difference. Both of these blades are pretty unique looking, going back to some vintage Gillette branding. Here is the Thai version.

I decided to grab the Arko stick today. I have only used the stick one time, many moons ago, and didn't like it. Didn't get a decent lather and felt like it was just a lot of work for nothing. However, I was an idiot back then and knew very little so let's see if a few months wisdom makes a difference. I had the puck ready in case. So, let the Pro 48 soak and then went over my face with the stick to coat it well and started lathering with the brush still very wet. Yep, I was an idiot back then. The lather just appeared out of nowhere and kept building. Very nice. Didn't want to stop working it. Ok, so now I see the appeal of the stick.

Got the blade loaded in the Tech and time to give it a shot. The first stroke felt a bit rough but that was the only one. Once the blade got that first one in it smoothed right out and really did a great first pass WTG. Nice reduction as well so I can't complain. Grabbed the brush and again the lather just appeared, so off to the XTG. Again, nice feedback but smooth and at the end I could have stopped with a nice DFS. Decided to go ATG, mostly to see what the Arko would do on a third lather from the brush. Not as much lather but still more than enough to get the job done. Went ATG then XTG on the neck with some slides to finish. Called it a very near BBS and was impressed. After taking some time and rechecking I'm going to go ahead and call it BBS! Really nice feel to the blade and great result. I think this blade may be a bit better than the one from Vietnam, but again it's proof that Gillette clearly calls the shots in how their blades are manufactured. Great shave for a Saturday off. Now, on to the final stages of getting ready for October's focus.
