  2. L’occitane produces shaving tools of a consistent high quality. I’ve been using the Cade soap for a few years and it always delivers a top notch shave.

I’ve never been a big fan of the scent, but it is tolerable and borders om pleasant. The lather is slick and thick, and it doesn’t take much loading beforethe brush is filled up with enough lather to shave me two times over. Today’s shave was no exception, the lather was perfect, the shave was lovely and the result was pretty damn fine even though I am not.

I used the Asco Super Stainless blade today, and I believe it was my first shave altogether with this one. It is a pretty good blade and gave a pretty smooth shave. It is not sharp enough to compete with Feathers, Polsilvers and even Astra. But it is not far behind. If this was the only blade I had tried, I am sure I would not know any better, but still be quite content with my shaves.

I have a decent amount of various blades that is slightly better, and I will therefore not invest in a pack of hundred, but I will use the few I have remaining with good conscience and contentment.

In the L’occitane line up there is an interesting aftershave. I am sure this is a decent product, but for me it appears to be scented water. No sting, no burn or no astringent effect, but with a slight cooling effect. To be fair, my skin felt pretty decent after my shave. If the AS has anything to do with it, I can’t be sure. But in my mind it appears to be rather boring and leave me with a certain impression of not being satisfied with its performance. I guess I will have to use it for an extended period of time to make sure.

    Lather: MdC

    Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Shambala
Very nice shave. My taste in razors has changed so much in the last couple of months, at one time I couldn't stand Gillette TTO's. Probably lack of technique, now I could get by with 4 TTO's and my Mongoose. MdC. I love this soap. Shambala is a great way to finish my shave.

  8. Menthol Monday:

Prep: Hot shower, Healthy Accents Daily Renewal Cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
    Lather: Stirling Glacial Obsidian soap
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bolzano Superinox (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (5, 6, 7)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's witch hazel, Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS splash
    Cologne: Xeryus by Givenchy

Surprisingly, this was probably the best shave I've gotten with this particular blade. . . not Bolzano as a whole, but this specific blade. The lather was worth the bit of extra work this AM, as it really helped soften and hold up three days' worth of stubble for the 41c and Bolzano to mow down. The third pass took the top off one minor blemish on my jawline, producing a spot of blood, but otherwise the results were DFS+, smooth, cold, and comfortable.
  9. Mamma mia - did I freeze my face off this time. Since last week I hadn't used a Glacial soap so I wasn't used to such an intense menthol wallop and the Lemon Chill did one hell of a number on me which felt frigid and wonderful. The Wintergreen balm froze and moisturized my face beautifully, and the Arctique aftershave really lived up to its name. Even the small amount caused the tears to flow - Holy Moly, is this stuff ever heavy-duty. It also smells great. BBS thanks to my new Derby in the Super Speed. :)
  10. Great soap and aftershave!

  12. Crank it up Menthol Monday
I tried out the Futur wide open on six today with superb results! The razor moved effortlessly and without drama, my stubble did not stand a chance. This might have been my best shave yet. I made one swipe on 4.5, and that felt mild, so I went all the way, and that still felt mild and noisy. I expected some burn from the alcohol in the Easy Street aftershave that is also new to me, but the burn was minimum.
About the aftershave- in the bottle I thought it was too close to Cologne Russe, but on my face it is distinct. It's a floral with some sweetness and welcome menthol. It's a keeper.
I guess my take away from this shave is to not fear the Futur on six, or, my face must be Kevlar.

    Prep: Van Yulay PSO
