Shave #2 with the Rapira Super Stainless in my Gold Tech. Shave #3 with the Frank Shaving Pur-tech Synthetic.
Had much better lather today thanks to Charlie's advice to add the water slowly. I also recall Adam's (Drygulch) advice. In fact, several have mentioned this, it just takes seeing it a few times for it to sink in with me. It worked well. I just added the water a few drops at a time in between building my face lather to avoid splattering the counter.
Did 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG on my face and XTG on my neck (top to bottom today). Pass 2: ATG. A near BBS at this point. A cold water rinse followed by a very small amount of touch up in my problem areas and once again the baby came home. The Aqua Velva was mild today.

A very nice comfortable BBS shave from the Rapira Super Stainless in my Gold Tech. That makes this combo 2 for 2 in the BBS department. Yea! :happy093:

I know the SOTD threads are the pulse of TSD but these monthly threads are a very close second.

Razor: Gillette Super Speed 1953 Y2
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue

Guys!!! If you haven't spent $6 on a La Toja shave stick yet what are you waiting for?! This soap does it! Everything! I like this Super Speed. Technique matters. Not long ago I couldn't get a bad shave from a SS. I got to thinking about the latest Plisson-like-craze. What's wrong with the Plisson? Nothing. Why do I continue to buy Plisson-like brushes? Crazy. That's why. Shady Past. :)

I have come to prefer these threads over the SOTD, although that is about like saying I prefer my Fatboy over my Phoenix Dbl OC: both are great and I enjoy them each. This thread is very entertaining.

    SEptember Focus Day 27:

    Homemade PS Oil
    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Injector Type G
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    TOBS Sandalwood AS

This month has really opened my eyes to Injector razors. I have to say I really enjoy them. I will definitely include them in my permanent rotation. I got another great DFS this morning. I will have to work on the Gems a bit more, which sounds like another focus.

Bill! I'm glad you had better success using your synthetic brush this morning. You can't beat a two-pass BBS shave!

Kerry, I have a ton of soap right now, but La Toja is on the list. You and Chris are powerful La Toja enablers. "Shady Past" aftershave - I love the name. Have a great day and take care of your knee.

Maybe you should consult your son on shaving with the Gems. I assume he's still BBS this morning from yesterday's shave. :)

It is funny, I have found I can learn a lot from him! Now, shaving with a blade may not be something I want him teaching me, at least not for a few more years...

Interesting. I find myself expressing more here and definitely more interaction. Not saying the SOTD thread you don't get interaction it's just a bit different.

Sorry to hear your diagnosis. Knee replacements nowadays do pretty well. I've spent some time in physical therapy with knee replacement patients. It sounds much worse than it is. My prayers are with you. You will be able to handle this I'm sure. :happy088:

Charlie, thank you! :) I have a ton and a half ;) I did already have the stick, the cream I bought and wow! Now that's an awesome product. Shady Past is tobacco and amber with a touch of menthol. Very nice scent, one that will hang around for most of the day.

Thanks, Mark! I've got to lose 30 pounds before I could get a knee replacement, or about. The ideal weight for me would be 220. I haven't see 220 since high school. :eatdrink020: The cortisone shot I had yesterday has definitely provided me with some much needed relief.

Bill, I pretty much only use synthetic brushes now, I'll occasionally use a boar or Silvertip. I've done both a full soak and hand ring the water out of the brush, and just the dip the tips of the brush into water. IMO dipping the tips of the brush into the water is plenty, also if you bloom your soap? Use a dry brush and use the bloom water. Just a thought.

I think SOTD is a bit more formal in displaying gear and setups without a lot of commentary. Ok so I'm not that formal there but that's how most treat it. That's a good thing because you can browse SOTD and see cool gear and sometimes rare gear. I have found blade choices to be interesting at times as well. For me SOTD is a great browse while the 30 Day thread is a great discussion. Both are valuable and compliment each other very well.

I find the same thing to be true. The number of members that participate in the SOTD thread is greater but the interaction is much more here. This level of participation has allowed me to get to know the participates much better.
