September 29 Gillette New LC Feather blade (2) Kent BK4 silvertip brush Trumper's Coconut shave cream and glycerin Three passes Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food The Shaves with the New have been so good that I went for another three-pass shave today. Enjoy your Tuesday!
The SOTD thread to me is all about the eye candy. You go there, see the gear, and immediately start making the wish list. I completely agree with Neal that the SOTD is my browse thread, while this is the one I come to in order to learn, post, and enjoy the discussion. Many days this is the only thread I have time to come and read (of course that could be because we are up to like 1940 posts for this month . . . well on the way to 2000 with today and tomorrow to go).
September 30 Day Focus--Blade Search Sept 29 Razor -- Lord L6 Blade -- Vaunted Voskhod Brush -- VDH Boar Soap -- Stirling Lemon Chill (making up for menthol Monday that I missed) Post -- Cold water splash, WH (m-bombed), ISZ AS Today was day 2 with the Voskhod blade. Excellent shave today. The blade performed very well and treated me very well. I do think this blade does much better for me when I do not have much more than one day's growth. It really gives me a nice, smooth, irritation and blood free shave. Right now, I think this blade is in third place (tied with the Personna Lab Blues which are the top performing non-Russian blade) behind the Ladas in second and the Gillette Silver Blue in first. Gives me a good selection of easily found blades to use. Tomorrow will be the last shave with the blade and the last shave of my blade search for now. Will be moving on to the Cadet open comb razor for OCtober. I will be starting with the GSB blade in it to see if it continues performing strong in that razor. I may try a couple different blades in the OC to see if any work better than the GSB. So may have more reports on the Ladas, Voskhod, and others. Thanks to everyone for their encouragement over the last couple months, and especially for making sure I stay on focus with my technique. It really is satisfying to know that I can pick up a brand new razor, or a 50+ year old razor, and be able to get a good to great shave out of it. Definitely much more satisfying and enjoyable than reaching for the can goo and my 4 blade cartridge razor to get, at best, a decent shave and a little irritation or an electric with its crappy shave and razor burn. I also want to say that my Fiancee much appreciates it. She has told me more than once that she likes my face much better now than she used to before traditional shaving. Not sure how to take that though, but I am pretty sure it was a thank you to y'all!
Shady Past? It's an aftershave?!! All this time I thought he was talking about MrC's internment or perhaps Neal's questionable blade business practices.
Well, I'm a big MST3K fan, so I remembered that movie. I could have posted this still from the actual film. Yes it was a real movie and yes it was a stinker.
Razor A: Ever-Ready SE 1914 Razor B: Gillette SS 1947 Birth Razor Blade A: GEM (6) Blade B: Personna Blue (1) Brush: WDC-2 High Mountain Badger : Grandfather's restored Soap: Captain's Choice Sandalwood A/S: Captain's Choice Sandalwood Day 29 Early shave going out tonight. Great shave again. I find the Captain's Choice products don't build as good a lather as my TSD soaps. They are good soaps though. Good to use a Gillette SS again, it's been awhile. Been raining here today. My daughter and her family just arrived in San Diego, Calif. One of my grand daughter's is trying out for a Highland Dance scholarship. Good luck Lilah!
I'm not a shave stick guy, but this one has started to change my mind. The post shave is on point. <-- I sound like my 19 year old daughter
Good luck to your granddaughter! Scholarships are always "on point" to steal a phrase from @RaZorBurn123 (And no pun intended I promise! ).
Thanks Kerry, I'll give dipping the tips a try. I put a small gob of shave cream on each side of my neck and splay the brush while getting what lather I can spread out. That gives me a nice pocket in the brush to add 2 or 3 drops of water to, lather, and then repeat. I don't use much water to start with. Today I ran it under the faucet, squeezed it well, and then gave it a shake. I really prefer the badger, but we're heading to Nevada this Saturday for a week long road trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Southern Utah and I'm not going to have my nice brush with me. I really don't want it in a wet baggie all week. So this week is my effort to try to dial in the synthetic. Who knows, I may end up liking it better at some point.
