Interesting. I find myself expressing more here and definitely more interaction. Not saying the SOTD thread you don't get interaction it's just a bit different.

Sorry to hear your diagnosis. Knee replacements nowadays do pretty well. I've spent some time in physical therapy with knee replacement patients. It sounds much worse than it is. My prayers are with you. You will be able to handle this I'm sure. :happy088:

Charlie, thank you! :) I have a ton and a half ;) I did already have the stick, the cream I bought and wow! Now that's an awesome product. Shady Past is tobacco and amber with a touch of menthol. Very nice scent, one that will hang around for most of the day.

Thanks, Mark! I've got to lose 30 pounds before I could get a knee replacement, or about. The ideal weight for me would be 220. I haven't see 220 since high school. :eatdrink020: The cortisone shot I had yesterday has definitely provided me with some much needed relief.

Bill, I pretty much only use synthetic brushes now, I'll occasionally use a boar or Silvertip. I've done both a full soak and hand ring the water out of the brush, and just the dip the tips of the brush into water. IMO dipping the tips of the brush into the water is plenty, also if you bloom your soap? Use a dry brush and use the bloom water. Just a thought.

I think SOTD is a bit more formal in displaying gear and setups without a lot of commentary. Ok so I'm not that formal there but that's how most treat it. That's a good thing because you can browse SOTD and see cool gear and sometimes rare gear. I have found blade choices to be interesting at times as well. For me SOTD is a great browse while the 30 Day thread is a great discussion. Both are valuable and compliment each other very well.

I find the same thing to be true. The number of members that participate in the SOTD thread is greater but the interaction is much more here. This level of participation has allowed me to get to know the participates much better.

The SOTD thread to me is all about the eye candy. You go there, see the gear, and immediately start making the wish list. I completely agree with Neal that the SOTD is my browse thread, while this is the one I come to in order to learn, post, and enjoy the discussion. Many days this is the only thread I have time to come and read (of course that could be because we are up to like 1940 posts for this month . . . well on the way to 2000 with today and tomorrow to go).

    September 30 Day Focus--Blade Search

    Sept 29

    Razor -- Lord L6
    Blade -- Vaunted Voskhod
    Brush -- VDH Boar
Soap -- Stirling Lemon Chill (making up for menthol Monday that I missed)
Post -- Cold water splash, WH (m-bombed), ISZ AS

Today was day 2 with the Voskhod blade. Excellent shave today. The blade performed very well and treated me very well. I do think this blade does much better for me when I do not have much more than one day's growth. It really gives me a nice, smooth, irritation and blood free shave. Right now, I think this blade is in third place (tied with the Personna Lab Blues which are the top performing non-Russian blade) behind the Ladas in second and the Gillette Silver Blue in first. Gives me a good selection of easily found blades to use. Tomorrow will be the last shave with the blade and the last shave of my blade search for now. Will be moving on to the Cadet open comb razor for OCtober. I will be starting with the GSB blade in it to see if it continues performing strong in that razor. I may try a couple different blades in the OC to see if any work better than the GSB. So may have more reports on the Ladas, Voskhod, and others.

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement over the last couple months, and especially for making sure I stay on focus with my technique. It really is satisfying to know that I can pick up a brand new razor, or a 50+ year old razor, and be able to get a good to great shave out of it. Definitely much more satisfying and enjoyable than reaching for the can goo and my 4 blade cartridge razor to get, at best, a decent shave and a little irritation or an electric with its crappy shave and razor burn. I also want to say that my Fiancee much appreciates it. She has told me more than once that she likes my face much better now than she used to before traditional shaving. :signs002: Not sure how to take that though, but I am pretty sure it was a thank you to y'all! :thanks:

    Shady Past?
    It's an aftershave?!! :think002:

All this time I thought he was talking about MrC's internment or perhaps Neal's questionable blade business practices.

    Day 29
Early shave going out tonight. Great shave again. I find the Captain's Choice products don't build as good a lather as my TSD soaps. They are good soaps though. Good to use a Gillette SS again, it's been awhile. Been raining here today. My daughter and her family just arrived in San Diego, Calif. One of my grand daughter's is trying out for a Highland Dance scholarship. Good luck Lilah!
