Thanks Chris for continuing to support the wonderful concepts from @GDCarrington and leading another 30 day Focus / 30 day Rules, Shenanigans and High Jinx! For OCtober. I will continuing my blade focus that I’ve been on over the last 3 months. I've restricted myself to (mostly) 3 shaves per blade in a razor. The Astra and the Silver Blue got a lot more shaves in my Super Speed during the first 30 days. I also shaved with an Old Type (only the Astra SP) a Fat Boy, and two Techs. I’ll be bringing back the Old Type tomorrow (OCtober 1) and a newly acquired Gillette New LC in mid-October. My Old Type: And the yet to be delivered, New LC: Here are the blades I plan to try and how they’ve performed over the last 90 days: Gillette Silver Blue – 25 shaves, in 3 razors (SS, Fat Boy, Tech) – 76% BBS. No irritation Astra Superior Platinum – 17 shaves in 4 razors (SS, Old Type, Fat Boy, Tech) – 76% BBS. Only 1 shave had irritation probably due to dry lather. Lord Platinum Class – 7 shaves in 2 razors (Fat Boy, Tech) – 86% BBS. Only 1 shave had irritation again, likely due to poor lather. Rapira Swedish Supersteel – 7 shaves in 2 razors (Fat Boy, Tech) – 71% BBS. No irritation Rapira Super Stainless - 6 shaves in 2 razors (Fat Boy, Tech) - 83% BBS. No irritation Since I’ve already used the Astra SP in the Old Type, I’m going to try the Personna Platinum (Israeli Reds) as a substitute. It didn’t give me any BBS shaves with the Tech, but it gave me 3 of them in the Fat Boy. So, when do the shenanigans start? Is there a sign-up sheet so I don’t miss any?
It's not heresy. It's true love of the game. Beating a 11-0 Auburn squad better than beating a 5-6 squad all day long.
I was about to ask if there were pictures and if there was a link so I could study up on what not to do.
Your description of that razor fits mine for the Gillette Sterling. One day I will have to try and tame that shoddy lightweight piece of trash.
I believe the post @Bama Samurai is referring to can be found HERE. My first attempt with the Rapira. I had to laugh rereading it because I swore I would probably never pick it up again. Then in May.......well I'll let you venture back to the May 30 day thread if you ever get bored and need some reading. My month with bad blades and razors.
Good, I found the right link. So many bad shaves in a year it's hard to keep track of all of them! Makes me wonder if I need to find a shaving counselor. "How long have you hated carts, Mr. Cox"? "Do you think your love of trying every bad combination possible may be a latent response to the damage done by the chemicals in the Fusion Gel"? And all for only $450 per hour. A bargain.
One thing about autumn-shaving cream and aftershave products feel better on the skin (IMO anyway). That goes for winter, too.
