Thanks for the reply!! I ended up purchasing a starter kit to get started out, I have a badger brush, a few types of soap, I bought I think 5 different kinds of blades, a Parker 71R, and a Gillete Super Speed black tip! I really look forward to getting started. I'm also wanting to master a straight razor. But definitely a DE for everyday use. I would have to wake up at 4:45 to use a straight razor and make it to first formation. Haha. But thanks again, and I can't wait to get going here!

You are soooo lucky sir! To be starting now...it took me until I was near 60 to start wetshaving.

My BEST piece of advice - heed the advice you've already heard - Read the first post and especially the info on doing a 30-day RULE!

30 days with the same gear may sound like a monotonous time, but the skill you EARN in those 30 days will set you up to work most any razor in the future.

    Good luck!

Welcome aboard and great razors to start! Dial in a blade you like and work on that technique. The straights will follow in time. As one who has moved to the Artist Club and dabbled with a Kamisori, which I still plan to master, I can tell you that solid DE technique will save your life with a straight. And, interestingly, once you do get the straight technique working it solidifies the DE technique. Feel free to jump in anytime with questions, comments, shenanigans, you know all the things that we're here for!

I was just getting tired of cost of razors. I go through a cartridge a week because hair gets wedged in between the blades and ruins the blades. hoping for the best!

Thank you for your service first and foremost! :thanks:

I would pick one razor, and one soap that you like a lot, then start going through the blades. Use each one for 3 days or so and basically decide if it will eat your face up or if it is smooth enough to be comfortable using for a month. Use this month as a blade test and see how they perform and just get used to one of your razors. Like @Rufus T. said, it may seem monotonous but it is the best time you can put in to ensure excellent shaves for years to come. You will definitely not regret it!

Welcome aboard, we look forward to your posts!

I bought the starter kit which included everything I needed then lost all control of myself and spent another $80.00 on more soaps, blades, and that Gillete. I think I have my razor craze under control for the moment.

No need to thank me! I'm in aviation so I have a dream job! I haven't received any of the new soaps or razor blades yet, and I really like the weight of the Parker over the Gillete. So my first shave will be with Classic Shaving Brand Sandalwood soap, Astra green pack blades, Classic Shaving Super Badger brush, and the Parker 71R. I've been reading for months now and finally decided to pull the trigger on buying everything. Hoping this first shave is "wow, what have I been missing" moment I'm looking for. Thank you for your helping me out!

I hope your first shave is that good as well! However.......if it isn't......and even if you find yourself going "what the hell am I doing here"........just move on to the next day. We've all had those days along with the "wow" days. Over time (surprisingly short time, as in 30 days) you'll get those wow shaves on a consistent basis.
