I found that once I purchased about 30 vintage razors, 10 kinds of shaving soap, 300 or so Russian blades, and some quality shave brushes, I don't need to spend more money on shave gear. It's actually possible to save money shaving this way, but I haven't really done that yet,
Well, I envy you.. I have 2 razors, 3 soaps, and 115 blades. One day! I don't even care if it's more expensive, if I have to shave every day, might as well make it enjoyable.
One Year Anniversary on TSD 10/01/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (1) Brush – Olivewood with TGN Finest Fan Lather – Strop Shoppe Baker Street Post - Witch Hazel & Fine Platinum Today marks my one year anniversary on TSD. I have learned so much by joining The Shave Den but more importantly, I have come to know some of the nicest, generous and helpful people. All the stars aligned with today's shave. The lather just exploded off of the brush into a slick protective cushion. With a new Feather loaded in the Wolfman, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave, WTG, XTG and ATG. Rubbed my face with a wet hand and thought the baby is almost caught. Since this soap leaves such a slick feeling I hit 3 spots with just water not bothering to add soap and ended up with a BBS. I can come close most mornings during the week but a BBS shave on a work day is a rare thing for me. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum for a great start to OC October. I hope everyone has a great day.
Like others, I've decided to participate in October and since I only have one OC, a 20's Ball-end Old Type, I decided to make it a 30-day focus. In my case, I will be focusing on finding my preferred blade. I was already two blades into a 10-blade sampler (GSB and Astra SP), so I'm starting today with the Astra SS in the Old Type.
Congratulations on one year at TSD! Thank you for all you have contributed to us newbies, not the least of which are pictures like today which make us drool. Beautiful razor and brush!
Welcome aboard the 30 day thread. There are some great people here who will help you with the Three Ts! Word of warning:
I am doing a 30 day focus with the Fat Boy. I have had it for about 2 years now and don't use it much, the Slim Adjustable being my preferred razor. I have heard that the gap on the Fat Boy is greater than that on the slim, so I will start with it set to 5 and work up or down until I find my perfect setting. I have also been extremely curious about exactly how long a jar of MDC will last for me. After doing 2 back-to-back 30 day focuses, there seemed so little MDC used that I was amazed. So, I grabbed a container and put in 20 grams of MDC, which is 1/10th of a jar of MDC. If the amount of MDC left get too low, I will add another 20 grams and continue. I will weigh the container and divide by the number of days I have used it, thereby giving me how much I use per day. Fat Boy set to 5 Sputnik Blade MDC 3 passes Very nice shave. Smooth. no cuts, nicks, weepers, or irritation. The fat boy seems like it needs to have the gap raised. It feels like my Slim Adjustable on 6, but I will give it at least another day before I move it.
Congratulations on a year of TDS! We really appreciate all you contribute to the group, especially the folks on this thread. Did the shenanigans start right away or did you gradually get sucked into them??
Welcome aboard, we're glad you're here! I'm doing my first 15 days with the Old Type. Hope you have many great shaves and enjoy your time with us!
I like the looks of that razor! I almost bid for one on eBay, but ended up going for the New LC instead. Hope you enjoy using it!
I'm going to ask this question, it's only a question. Please don't read into more than what it is. If anyone wants to chat please pm me. I'm only attaching this message because it's the last one I read regarding my question, but certainly not the first one in this thread. Do we think we get a little side tracked during the conversation? Gents, this is your thread, Chris has laid out the guidelines clearly in the intro to what the purpose of the 30 day focus group thread is about. If you would like I could create a pm with everyone so we can discuss, or discuss it here. Again, it's only a question. Nothing more, nothing less. Kerry
