So, as you all know, GFT Lime smells more like my grandfather than like limes (must read previous post on GFT Lime). JoAnna was nice enough to send me every lime in the TSD store to try. It is now time to start reviewing them. First off, the TSD Lime cream is absolutely a treat. It has a single lime note that reminds me of margaritas and tequila and all the good things of summer. It lathers up nicely but I have found it to be slightly thin. I think I just need to work on my water/cream amounts to get it just right. Even though my lathering abilities were not up to par, the cream performed wonderfully. It was slick, cushioned, protecting, and smelled wonderful. I absolutely recommend the cream and the scent. I do believe it is the only pure, single note lime cream, that your going to find around (besides the home made soap ladies)(if theyre even selling cream? I'm not sure). Its wonderful. I'd recommend buying it. The Second cream I had the pleasure of using was the T&H West Indian Limes. I was skeptical at first of the smell because it smelled somewhat like limes, but not 100%. But its T&H, so no point in letting it go to waste. It lathered up like a dream. Rich and creamy. Once I had the nice warm lather on my face the lime scent was very nice! The cream was extremely cushioning but I didnt find it to be very slick. I have only had one shave with it and didnt use their pre shave oil but I'll give it one more try without the preshave oil and another shave with it. Maybe I just needed to add a slight bit more water. Overall, was impressed by the cream and had a wonderful shave.

I still have 3 more to review :) I believe I have old spice limes, godredj limes, and one more... I shall post my reviews once I shave with them.

Caste Forbes EO Lime is the best lime out there IMHO

It is my understanding that JM Fraser's shave cream is also lime scented. Perhaps another gent with info on this cream will chime in.

Neale can feel free to chime in at any time. I'm not sure who he is exactly. I have heard mixed reviews about Coates but am very willing to try it as I have yet to try it. I have also heard that castle forbes lime (as well as all their other creams) are absolutely amazing. I have been wanting to try them but just cant afford it :) Others should feel free to post their reviews of other limes. I'll be adding reviews of 4-5 other limes as soon as I use them.

I have a tub of Fraser's. Unless they have a new cream, no lime scent in there at all. It's more of a clean scent.

I do like T&H WIL. I also have Cambridge Limes and WIL shaving soaps. Both are very fresh with just the right amount of scent, never overpowering.

I also have a tub of TOBS Lemon & Lime and the only thing I can compare the smell to is sticking your head in a fresh bucket of Mr. Clean. The smell is over powering and reminds me of cleaning products more than anything. I dont think I can get over it and will probably have to trade it. The GFT and TSD Lime creams have just the right amount of scent to be nice, and not over powering.

the only lime scents i have are TSD lime & TSD mojito soaps. i certainly enjoy these!

wait - i also have the booster's iced lime & it smells just like lime jello. i added one tsp. of glycerin and that helped the performance. when it goes down a bit more, i am going to add a second tsp - that should be just about right for me.

I want to like lime shaving cream and lime shaving soap and lime aftershave and lime balm and anything else made with or smelling like limes that’s associated with shaving. But, alas, most of the lime products don’t sit well with my nose, or they irritate my skin. I’m so sad, it makes me want to weep. So far the only things that I can enjoy are Ogallala’s lime bay rum aftershave, Caswell-Massey’s lime aftershave and their lime bath soap. I had high hopes for Vulfix’s lime shave cream, but that too was not meant to be for me.

I guess I’m one of those lime intolerant people that you thought might exist, but never met; until now.

I am in the same boat as you Charles. All those interpretations of lime never sat well with my nose. The PUREST lime scent your going to find is the TSD Lime cream/soap. The only scent added is pure Lime EO and nothing else. It smells like a fresh squeezed lime. I would suggest purchasing a tub or atleast a sample.

Maybe joanna will consider making different types of scent packages so you can find the exact right lime for your nose or which ever other scent your trying to find the perfect one of (lime, almond, rose, etc). Just a thought.

Also, I'd like to thank JoAnna for making this lime testing possible.
    THANK YOU JoANNA!!!!!

  13. Hi there Jay,
Very nice of you to be the 'Madame Curie' of the shave den.......willing to sacrifice yourself in the interests of finding the perfect lime shaving product. A noble gesture........heh.
I've tried (or sniffed) maybe 10-12 different lime versions (colognes included). I always (until recently) loved the smell of Castle Forbes the most, and that's one you'll really need to include in your sampling. The scent will amaze you, especially if you like JoAnna's version. It's even more intense than hers, but that's where it loses me. It's just a bit too much, whereas JoAnna's has just the right strength to it for me. I can (and have) used TSD lime three days in a row.....something I could never do with CF. JoAnna has made her soap with that same true single note as CF, but just a little more subtle.
The other product to include in your test would be the QED version of lime. Yeah, you at least need to see what that's like. Charles has a huge following, partially because of that soap. You may or may not like it, but at least you can make a more educated conclusion about what else is out there.
Tell you what I'll do Jay..........I'll send out some CF for you to try. Consider it my small donation....heh. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the QED, but it sounds like you're gonna be busy with others anyway.
Yeah, you'd think that lime would be lime, but as you found out, that certainly isn't the case.

Thank you very much for the offer of a sampling of CF Lime. I have heard it to be called a "woodsy lime", whatever that means. I hear I'll also be chasing the snurdle around unless I read those "how to lather CF cream" threads. I will do my best at getting my hands of the QED lime, as I have yet to try any of Charles's products. I will PM you my address. Its all for the good of science :)

Back to business though... Godredj. The stuff shaved rather well. It was a tad bit harsh on my sensitive neck and left me a little red (random blothches around the face). It was pretty cushioning and slick. Overall it is a good cream with a bit of a light frothyness to it. I only have one real problem with this cream; the scent. This stuff smells absolutely horrible! It smells like a mixture between B.O. and a bit of lime. Lets say you went out and played a hard game of tenis, walked off the court, and then splashed some GFT Lime cologne on your self: This is what it smells like. I would rate this stuff at a 2/10 because if I were in a life or death situation, I would shave with it. Otherwise, I dreaded each time I put that brush of my face. Reminded me of when I was young and had to get multiple shots in one visit. Each time I lathered up I dreaded the next time I had to.

Excellent work you're doing here. Oddly enough my favorite limes are trumpers, godrej, and old spice (I haven't tried the castle forbes). I wonder of this means you'll not like the scent of old spice lime :o

Uhhhohhhh. We've got different tastes. I'm going to try the old spice tomarrow. I cant believe how much I didnt like the godrej. I put my girlfriend to work and she liked the TSD and GFT lime, and thought the rest smelled funny.

The rest I have to try:
    -Vulfix
    -Old Spice
    -CF
-QED (if I can get my hands on it)

Lime donations are always accepted in the form of cream, soap, and alcohol.

Maybe I'll do war of the Almonds next, or something of the sort. I do have one burning question for JoAnna though: How did TSD end up with an Axe product in the store?

I can pitch in on the question of axe cream. I ordered replacement stock of DIY shave cream (which is really nice BTW), and it was filled with Axe from our supplier. The axe scent is denim, and is quite a bit different from the US offerings. The axe may or may not be restocked in the store, as it depends on how well it sells.

Interesting. I hope they fixed their order. I have actually never heard of the D.I.Y. cream before seeing it in the store here. As usual, I'm scared to try new creams because I just dont have much money to be throwing around. I did some counting and think I have about 7-8 razors so I guess its time to start selling a few off and take care of business.

Don't want to hijack you thread, but the diy is a fresh scented cream, with a hint of menthol. Really good stuff. It's in our sampler if you're curious. :)
Axe is good, but not as good as DIY, IMHO.
