Congratulations! The shaves will only get better from here as your technique improves. That's what these 30-day focus exercises are all about.
Congratulations. Angle and no pressure is the key. Once you find the groove, practice, practice, practice. It took me a while to figure it out, but I am getting consistently good shaves every day now. Have fun!
OCtober Focus Day 3: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Electric Sheep SS Gillette New LC Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill AS I had to be up early for a soccer game this morning, so I rushed my shave a bit. I still ended up with a CCS and not irritation. I really do enjoy this razor so far. Tomorrow will be my last day with it for a few days as I am going on a business trip. I will likely take my Schick C3, so I am going break OCtober for a couple of days.
That's awesome. But here's a Honeymoon to do list: (1) forget the shaving forum (2) pay attention to wife.
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 3 Razor - Gillette 1918 Old Style Blade - (3) Brush - Vie Long 12705 The Horse Soap - TSD Bay Rum Lanolin Post - Cold Water, Alum, Aqua Velva Musk Final day for the King. My plan is to use each blade three shaves this month. I normally switch blades after three shaves so if they will make that distance I consider them to have passed my test. While I occasionally go past three on a blade its only with certain ones. The Horse and TSD Lanolin Bay Rum today. So basically.....I have a Bay Horse, with Rum and Fat. Or a Rummy fat bay horse. Oh stop groaning, it's me, what did you expect? On to the shave. Great easy lather and I'm definitely going to be buying more TSD Lanolin. Awesome soap. Grabbed the 1918 and went to work and found the blade just a bit tuggy. Not horrible and still usable but it's good that I was planning on this being its last day. I can tell it's not going to make four. No cuts/nicks or other problems so that's all good. SWMBO came in while I was getting ready to finish the neck and watched me slide the neck. She had never seen the Gillette Slide and wasn't convinced it was a good idea. Seems like she is worried I have a desire to shred my neck. Nope, just want that two pass finish today and I got it. DFS and ready to roll. Final full weekend off as I hit the streets running on Tuesday following final testing on Monday. Hope you have a great weekend! Something for your consideration today...............courtesy of another Bloom County fan.
Ok so I went to the PX today to get some post shave and some alum. But looking around I found some ExhangeSelect brand blades. 10 for 1.49. And since I'm supposed to be trying every blade possible I thought why not? So I picked up a pack. Says they are made in Israel but don't see any other info. For those who don't know, the PX is like the military base Walmart, and ExchangeSelect is there generic brand. Finished 3 shaves with the Astra, so I guess I will try this blade next!
Probably personna reds rebranded. If it is then its a decent blade for me. I've heard some people that hate them as well. Good luck with it.
Just did a little reading, they are made by Energizer Personal Care LLC, which I've seen a couple places that it owns Personna, kinda interesting the off brand packaging is red and black.
October 4 Planned Gillette New LC Feather blade (1) Kent BK4 silvertip brush TSD lanolin unscented and glycerin Two passes Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food
Love that razor. Charlie, what do you think of shave sticks? I've never really tried one but have thought of it.
Thanks Clint! I prefer using a shave stick over loading my brush from a soap puck. It's easier, and I have more control over the amount of soap I apply to my face. A shave stick also packs nicely in your travel kit. The TSD shave sticks are great, but I've also grated soap pucks and pressed them into shave sticks. In fact, when I did this for MWF, it worked much better for me. Give it a try sometime!
Today is day three of my blade focus. Still using SOTD EJ DE89 The Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Blue) blade TOBS Grapefruit Cream Rubberset 400 TSD Egyptian Spice AS I am still extremely pleased with this blade. This blade was still very smooth on day three and I ended up with another two pass BBS with very little touch up. If I wasn't due to switch blades tomorrow, I would be tempted to try another blade. Have fun!
I pressed some Mystic Waters into a shave stick. I must have put entirely too much on my face because I clogged the razor up something terrible. I need to try it again with a different soap.
Day 2 - 30 Days with a Gillette Fat Boy Planned shave Did the dial set on 5 last night. Will go to six on a wtg-atg plan tonight. Also this is how I travel. Spray bottle is Clubman, green is Jeris Hair tonic. Have a great weekend!
