October 4 Razor: 20's Old Type Blade: Astra SS (3) The good news is that I think I got the closeness and the neck irritation more dialed in. The bad news was a couple of weepers near the corner of my mouth. A question for the Old Type users- Do you shim your blade? When I first got the OT, I had a couple of shave with it that I really liked. Then, I read a recommendation on another forum about adding a shim to an OT to compensate for the different blade thickness. Since then, it seems like I've not been as happy with it. Could it be a case of ruining a good thing by adding the shim?

The OT doesn't have much of a blade gap for reasons of blade thickness that you've already mentioned. I like lots of blade gap. I would recommend using your OT with and without the shim to see which you like more and then use it the way that gives you the best shave. Every razor is a bit different as we all are.
October 4, 2015 OC OCtober - Shave Den Sunday Morning Shave Hot Shower Soap: TSD Unscented TSD Witch Hazel TSD Aftershave Milk TSD Iced Subzero Brush: Omega Pro 48 Razor: Gillette New LC OC Blade: 7 o'clock Blue (4) 2-day growth, 3-pass shave. 1st pass - good reduction on the WTG pass. 2nd pass - XTG sets up 3rd pass well. 3rd pass - ATG pass leaves me clean and smooth. 6 hours later, no stubble, still smooth. The New LC, paired with the 7 O'Clock blade (just 4 shaves) is one of the most effortless, consistent, top shaves that I've had in my short journey. Cheers! RT
It's been a hectic weekend. Out of town relatives staying with us. My rotation for a message for church today. Up late last night; really early rise morning; short shower, followed by a quick shave. All went very well. Homade PSO Klar Kabinet EJ Best Badger Gillette New OCS/Vostok (2) Alum block, witch hazel Claiborne for Men It was a quick 1 pass ATG which was very smooth, comfortable, and close shave. This is my second shave with the Vostok blade. I thought PolSilver was my favorite blade but the Vostok performs great in this razor. Next up.... Gem MMOC. Great shaves everybody. Don

I don't shim either my Single Ring (thin 102 head) our my later Old Type (thicker 102a head) and get great shaves out of both. The 102 head is milder than the 102a IMO.

Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil Gem OCMM Gem Stainless Blade x 2 Semogue Boar Brush Wars Classic Shaving Cream (added Argan oil) Organic Aloe Vera Gel Dominican Bay Rum Aftershave Splash Pulled out the OCMM today for the first time in over a year....The OCMM gets it awesome reputation because its not an easy razor to use...Its actually a very well behaved SE with a very Light Touch and the correct shaving angle of Almost Flat Against the Face...In terms of aggression I would say its sort of the Middle of the road which is contrary to popular opinion...That said the OCMM can turn into a Brutal Ugly Monster and tear you face to pieces without the correct technique ...I would suggest that if one can Master a Feather Like Touch with the OCMM then there will be no problem with any other razor....I enjoyed my shave today with the OCMM and ended up with a really smooth result with a BBS in most places....Two passes and a minor touch up cant be bad....Skin feels smooth and refreshed... Razor: 20's Old Type Blade: 7oC SharpEdge (1), no shim Two differences from the past 3 shaves: 1) I've moved on to the next blade in the sampler (7oC SharpEdge) and 2) I've ditched the shim. This is the shave I remember this razor as being capable of- close, comfortable with minimal irritation. Clearly, while others feel it is necessary to shim their Old Types, something in my technique, face or specific razor does not do as well with the additional blade gap. Anybody care to help me interpret what that means? JR
First shave with the Gillette Sheraton and it was a good one. It is mild compared to the Bostonian I used last week but just as efficient. I managed three passes for a near BBS.
