An honest question : Should we also create a "Disposable razor appreciation thread" or is it ok to discuss these both categories in this thread?
Disposable razors aren't cartridge razors, so technically discussion of them doesn't belong in this thread. However, a lot of disposables are just disposable versions of cartridge razors, and shave largely the same way; some of them even have actual cartridges on disposable handles (e.g., M3 and Fusion disposables), so I don't suppose it's entirely inappropriate for them to be discussed here. Personally, I have no interest in disposables, so I'll largely ignore posts about them.
One of the main reasons why I wish to have a separate thread on disposables. Most gents will simply ignore a post with disposable razor as the main subject.
I think the bigger question is whether such a thread should be in the cartridge subforum, or the main safety razor forum.
I went ahead and created one. I did end up putting it in the cartridge section but I agree with you that it's a bit of a 'forced' fit.
It's probably a forced fit in either forum, but I'll go out on a limb and say cartridge users are probably a more sympathetic and tolerant audience, compared to DE/SE users.
I think it fits better in cartridge subforum for following main reasons : Most disposables share the same shaving feel/experience with different cartridge razors Cartridge shaving enthusiasts are more likely the ones who try out a disposable (quite a debatable point though ) There are many disposable razors that also are marketed in form of cartridge razors (e.g. Mach III disposable and Mach III cartridge) There are hybrid disposable razors. These are actually a cross between cartridge and disposable razor e.g. BIC hybrid 3 advance and BIC flex n easy 4 etc. etc. Cartridge users are more welcoming to this category than anyone else.
I've been shaving with my Gillette Power Sensitive handle Mach3 the last few days and finding I really like it. I ordered Turbo and Sensitive carts for the Mach3 to see if those carts will be better than the original Mach3 cart.
I have the M3 Power nitro one. . I love it yes, but it just goes a little rough on my chin and right underneath it. Same can't be said for Proglide.
That's a real nice Mach3! I have a goatee and find the Mach3 really good for keeping the edge of the goatee in its place. I've found the original Mach3 cart not as smooth against the grain like the Proglide or Hydro (both power handles) achieve.
I have decided to collect various handles of the Mach3. I'm a purist when it comes to collecting Gillette razors, I always prefer the handles produced by Gillette.
From a collecting standpoint, I totally get that. From a functional standpoint, I'm more fond of high-quality aftermarket handles. I have found the weight, balance and dampening characteristics of a good, brass-core handle like my Edwin Jagger Sensor or Art of Shaving M3 really make cartridge shaving a more enjoyable, luxurious experience compared to using the lighter-weight stock handles. But to each his own.
I've only used the original Mach 3...is there any major difference between the original, Turbo, Senstive, etc.?
The only (alleged) differences between the various carts are the blade coatings, lube strips, and rubber fins. How much those slight differences really make a difference is subject to conjecture.
