Derby is a great blade in an aggressive razor. Very smooth. Like you said, not the sharpest, but very smooth.
Forgive me shave fathers for I have sinned. Instead of 3 shaves with my personna, I lost self control and switched to a derby after reading some reviews. I do not think it pairs well with my Black tip. After a flawless shave yesterday, I felt like I had to fight for an acceptable shave. Overall, acceptable shave. Irritation B, closeness B+. Can't wait to finish my shaves with this one so I can move onto the next. If I list my new blades I was hoping you guys could help me decide on which blade to use next! Personna Platinum Blue Crystal Stainless Steel 7 a.m. Hi Platinum by durablade Sharp Hi Chromium by durablade Astra Superior Stainless Shark Super Chrome Thanks for any help in advance!
I figured that I have been using really good soap recently and wanted to see where I came from. plus if the brush works for williams it'll work for everything. Its not a bad soap treated right. I keep mine in an empty cream jar sitting in a few mm of water sealed up. keeps the puck soft and it lathers pretty effortlessly. I change out the water every time I use it. It was dry this time so I let it soak in cool water for 20min before I started.
Well, from my own experience, be on guard with the 7 a.m. and Sharp. Danger lurks. The Astra SS? Haven't used one but I've heard they're good. I use the SP exclusively on my head. My first blade I bought in bulk was the Astra SP. Personna Blues are a good blade that are the favorite of many. You're on your own with the Crystal. It's an Israeli blade that I have no knowledge of except it exists.
Why the 7 a.m. And sharp? The only reason I couldn't resist this pack was I got 110 blades for 9$. Maybe I'm understanding why! I hadn't even received my first razor before ordering it. Also I have the Astra SP, that was my first blade.
I've never had a bad shave from a personna DE. I've also never had a bad shave with Astra blades. I have the other blades but until the new year I'm not trying anymore new blades. maybe in Jan I'll pick 3 razors and do a shave each for a selection of 10 blades. It should prove to be interesting in a @NCoxSTL kind of way. Have styptic, will shave.
Very dull, draggy and inconsistent for me. They were part of my "bad blade month". Now, having said that remember.....blades are the absolute most subjective item in shaving. What works for me may be the worst shave you've ever had when you try it. I just like to give you a heads up where I've found blades that were really bad for me and also have a bit of a bad reputation. Again, though, I've seen guys on forums who love the Sharp and the 7 a.m. And even guys who hate Voskhod!?!? Now that's crazy. I love the fact you're trying so many blades and such a variety. The important thing is to try them and if they work for you just ignore everyone else and enjoy your shave!
I don't know, doing things my way could get you committed in some states. But I admire your spirit! By the way, I prefer the big stypic pencil...like the size of a child's pencil. You can never have enough around here.
I was told to use my 30 day focus for the 3 T's and trying blades. And I would be crazy to betray TSD. Taught me everything I know so far. And I hate to say it, but I've never even heard of Voskhod other than your avatar. (Tells you how new to wet shaving I am). I will have to try and get my hands on a pack!
I've got the jumbo styptic pencil already. its right next to the sink. I don't think I'll go as crazy as you have. I'll only use one cheap crappy razor instead of 2.
I'm one of those people who don't like voskhod blades. I'm going to use one this month but just because I'm willing to give it a shot with all my razors. I think its too sharp but not very smooth. a lot like a feather which I also don't like. I like Kai blades though and they are said to be just as sharp.
All I have is the travel size Pinaud. I try to avoid it at all cost. It's like Satan himself is spitting the flames of hell on my face. Alcohol after shave hath no fury like a styptic. Sting-free.. Best joke of the century.
Some of these yahoos use it all over their face every shave. Makes you understand how we won the wars if tough guys like these fought in them.
Pretty well, thanks! I just need to add the water more slowly and take more time to get a good lather. I still prefer my Badger, but didn't want it to stay in a baggie all day while we're driving around.
