I grin at the thought whose there now. I wouldn't mind being there outside of AIT. It was a quiet, tiny base. So small, when we got weekend passes, we just walked off base. We we're also the closest barracks to the back of the base. Everything else was an abandoned rail yard.
I liked taking the big trucks onto the tank trails in the summer. you could lose an elephant in the mud. it was fun until we had to clean the trucks up later.
I wish I was still in the army. I got hurt pretty badly during training and was sent home and it was a disqualifing injury so I can't reenlist. I technically could claim disability but I like to work.
If Voskhod falls, the cartel is lost. Rapira PL and Ladas together might be enough to save it but it would never be the same.
Bill_F, see you live in Smyrna! I'm from Dawsonville, which I believe is just north of y'all! Man do I miss GA.
I live in Rome and have been to Dawsonville many times. Nothing like a cheeseburger from the Dawsonville Pool Room.
I have a ton of family in Rome! Gotta love watching those Yellow Jackets put a whooping on Buford in the GA Dome. And the pool room is awesome. So is the Big D's barbecue. I miss home like crazy. Big difference in West and East.
The Yellow Jackets are from Calhoun, but I actually live in the north part of the county and it's just about as close for me to go to Calhoun as it is to Rome. They even have a Varsity in Dawsonville now. I love me some Varsity chili dogs.
That's right, I just get confused. My grandpa lives in Rome, works in Calhoun, (so he roots for Calhoun), and I root for Calhoun because I think Buford is too arrogant. My dads side is from Buford, mothers side from Rome. We even have a big deer camp in Ranger? GA. I think, my grandpa owns it and I've only gotten to go there once. Normally just go to my brothers land.
My first Varsity Chili Dog and Frosted Orange was in September 1983 in downtown ATL. The occasion was Auburn at Georgia Tech with my Dad, he went to Tech. The Tigers defeated the Jackets 31-13, on the back of a then somewhat unknown sophomore tailback named Vincent Jackson. The chili dogs were great though.
10/07/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Dr. Bomber handle Blade – Feather (1) Brush – Olivewood with TGN Finest Fan Lather – B&M Seville Post - Witch Hazel & Myrsol F/Extra A fantastic 3 pass with touch ups BBS shave this morning. Easily the best shave of the month and a noticeable notch above my usual work morning effort. It could be that the heavier handle helped as well. B&M Seville is a thirsty soap but rewards with a super slick lather. The scent is a citrus/barbershop and the post shave feel is very good. Finished with a splash of Myrsol F/Extra and I am off to see the orthopedic this morning.
October 7th SOTD (Shave 4 of this focus) Two days’ growth Preshave: Hot Shower Razor: unrestored J. Wostenholm EBRO, from around 1865 Strop: Drygulch Leatherworks Oiled Latigo (20 laps linen/ 20 laps leather pre, 10 /10 post) Brush: Handturned Tulip Poplar Badger Soap: The Holy Black Gunpowder Spice Postshave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: The Holy Black Gunpowder Spice Another shave where everything but the razor, alum, and witch hazel are Artisan made. I don’t often use them as a set, but the brush and soap bowl were one of my first wetshaving purchases from a vendor named Bald Coyote Trading on Etsy. The soap and aftershave have a great smell, but I am still trying to decide if I will keep the soap as a shaving soap, or not. It will lather, but takes a little extra effort. The soap is glycerin, not tallow based. Today, I soaked the soap in water while I showered, and used my big badger brush on it. I worked it for a few minutes, and got a really good lather out of it. It can stay in the rotation. Two and a half pass today. N/S the S/N, then as close as I can get to ATG on my neck. I slowed things down today and really focused on skin stretching, short and light strokes, and keeping the angle on the razor at 1-2 spine widths. Result- “Why hello there, baby!” Only my second BBS with a straight. If I count my shaves with the Feather AC and my straights together, today is 100 shaves. Guess its finally sinking in!
