10/12/15 Gillette Old Type Vulfix Super Badger (660) C.O. Bigelow cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #2 with the Personna Platinum (Israeli Red) in my Old Type. Now back in my Den, I put away the FS Pur-tech synthetic and picked up my Vulfix badger. Did face lather and 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG on my face and XTG on my neck (top to bottom today). Great reduction and much more comfortable than yesterday. Pass 2: ATG. Almost a BBS at this point. A cold water rinse followed by a very small amount of touch up in my problem areas and the baby came home. The Aqua Velva was mild today. A very nice BBS from the Personna Platinum (Israeli Red) in my Old Type. Today’s lather felt richer and more protective than those I had while using the synthetic on my trip. I wanted to change both the brush and the shave cream, but decided to just change the brush today for a more controlled comparison, and to have a little menthol on my Monday. Hope everyone has a great day.
OCtober Focus Day 12: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Glacial Wintergreen Schick Type C1 Osage Rub Stirling Unscented PSB Barbasol Pacific Rush After yesterday's shave, I decided I would go with a fresh blade this morning. I got a much better shave this morning, very smooth. I have a little bit of irritation on my Adam's Apple, but overall, I am very happy with the shave. The Glacial Wintergreen had my eyes watering, and now I am off to start my work week.
10/12/2015 Razor – Red & Black New Deluxe 15mm Blade – Feather (3) Brush –Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – MdC Fougere Post - Witch Hazel & Fine Platinum Another fantastic near BBS work morning shave. This razor has really impressed me with the last 3 shaves. Even though it's very similar to a New LC the shave seems more comfortable and efficient to me. For the rest of this month, I will rotate between the New Deluxe and Wolfman changing razors when I change blades. Finished off with some Fine Platinum and it's off to start the work week. Hope everyone has a great day.
30 day focus - Day 12 Fat Boy set to 7 Sputnik Blade MDC Face Lathered - Stirling Glacial Obsidian added on third pass 3 passes I have an awfully hard time shaving without hurting myself while using a strongly mentholated soap. Somehow, all my technique seems to leave when I apply a heavy menthol. But, seeing that it was Menthol Monday, I decided to add some Stirling Glacial Obsidian into the mix. After my second pass I rubbed the puck of Stirling on my face and worked it in with my brush. Since my last pass is always very light, I was able to avoid the usual nicks, cuts and weepers that I get through my own fault when using menthol. It turned out a great shave. I have gotten comfortable with the Fat Boy on 7 and plan to move it to 8 for tomorrow's shave.
SOTD October 12, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Gillette Old Type Blade: Personna Lab Blue Lather: Vintage Williams w/a hint of menthol and a lot of Old Spice Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: TSD Iced Subzero Fantastic shave! The Vintage Williams Project is a great way to use your Williams, the lather jumped out of my mug. Slick and cushion-y. This soap will stand up to many big name artisans. The Old Type was wonderful and smooth. Finished my shave with TSD ISZ.. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
October 12 20's Old Type Astra SP (2) Another fine one-pass shave with this combo. I'm seriously thinking of skipping the rest of the blade sampler for now and just continuing with the SP's for a while. On a different note, I definitely don't think I will be able to indulge my RAD this month and pick up a New from eBay like I had hoped. So this is likely the combo for the rest of the month. JR

October Focus - Old Type Razor: 1907 Single Ring I'm joining the group if guys here having great shaves with their Old Types. This morning was a smooth and comfortable DFS for work. Stirling MITA gave me my Monday menthol fix and provided a nice slick lather. I have noticed that you have to carefully place and align the blade on these razors or you can end up with it crooked or with more blade exposed on one side than the other. That may explain my earlier problems. Today I used a fresh Astra SP blade and it performed wonderfully. Keeping my eyes on technique I continue to 'ride the cap' with great results.
Today was day three with and this blade is a keeper. SOTD Menthol Monday Proraso Pre-shave Balm Proraso Green cream Rubberset 400 EJ DE89 Voskhod Teflon Coated blade Glacial splash Florida water Another two pass shave with some touch up for BBS. This blade will definitely stay in the rotation. Have a great week!
OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb October 12 (Menthol Monday) Razor – Cadet Open Comb Blade – Voskhod Brush – VDH Boar Soap – Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch hazel m-bombed, TSD ISZ Went back to the boar brush today after having a little trouble getting a great lather with the badger yesterday because I felt it only fair since starting a new blade. Had great lather today so will definitely have to work on lathering with the badger. Usual two pass shave. First pass went well. Nice and smooth no complaints and good reduction. Second pass ATG . . . hmmmmm. No blood and a very close shave but lots of irritation. Don't think I was trying too hard to get a great shave but it is a possibility. Will see how tomorrow's shave goes with this blade. Definitely learned not to write off the Voskhod after my experience with it in the L6. Hope everyone has a great week!
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 12 Razor - Gillette 1959 Super Speed Blade - (2) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold water, Alum, Nivea Original Welcome to Monday. The new weeks tarts with the second shave on the Treet Silver. I checked the blade this morning and see no signs of rust following my extra steps yesterday to keep the carbon blade going. That's a good thing. Whipped up a great lather with the BoSFat combination. I didn't go to the extra work of setting up the faux scuttle this time. Just loaded the brush and face lathered to a great lather as always. It seems like the more I use the puck the easier it is to load and lather. The theories (or proven tests) that MWF likes water appear to be true. The more the puck soaks up moisture the better it works. I'm thinking of doing an entire puck until gone at some point to see how long it lasts and if using it daily improves the lather even more. Yeah, I know, one more thing on my list. The Silver did a great job again today. Felt very similar to yesterday so no real reduction in the result. Still nice audio feedback which is one thing I love about carbons. You can definitely hear them working. Three passes to a DFS without any problems at all. Some more neck touch up and I could have caught the baby but that's just too much work on a Monday. So, quiet alum, hit it with the Nivea to keep things smooth and out the door I go! Have a great start to your week everyone.
I've never seen one either. That's another thing that is great about TSD. Things you've never seen before.
I am 41, and I am seeing things on TSD that I never knew about because it was trac2/Mach 3 and Edge gel the first time around. The old branded promo products are really nice looking and obviously quite collectible.
I have been using seven on my FB the past few, will switch to 8 today. I feel the same way about strong menthol. I dig it sometimes, but after some point it's more of a distraction than an enhancement.
I think sticking with a setup until you can shave in the dark with it is a great idea. If you stick to Old/Astra SP you will be an expert on it by 31 October. So far so good!
