10/13/15 Gillette Old Type Vulfix Super Badger (660) Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #3 with the Personna Platinum (Israeli Red) in my Old Type. After switching to the Vulfix badger yesterday, decided to bring back the Proraso Sandalwood cream today. Did face lather and 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG. Good reduction. Pass 2: ATG. Almost a BBS at this point. A cold water rinse followed by a small amount of touch up in my problem areas left me with what I thought was a BBS shave. The Aqua Velva was yelled a bit today, but settled down quickly. After it dried, I found that while I was BBS almost everywhere (including all of my trouble spots) I had somehow left a tiny spot under my right sideburn that was only DFS+. A comfortable near BBS from the Personna Platinum (Israeli Red) in my Old Type. No irritation, but if I'd paid just a bit more attention during my cold water rinse, I might have had a BBS. Tomorrow I break out the Rapira Swedish Supersteel for my last 3 shaves this month with the Old Type. Then I'll move on to the New LC that Omaney (Tony) so generously provided.
OCtober Focus Day 13: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Mitchell's Wool Fat Schick Type C1 Stirling Unscented PSB Captain's Choice Bay Rum AS Day 3 with this razor, and I am sporting a DFS. I do have a little irritation, but not too bad. I am going on another trip next week, and I will be taking this razor with me, so I am going swap to my Micromatic OC to get to know that razor a bit.
10/13/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (1) Brush – Olivewood with TGN Finest Fan Lather – Soap Commander Renewal Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L’Orange Today's shave was one of those that everything just clicked. I went with a traditional 3 pass shave and with a few touch ups in the trouble spots ended up with near perfect shave. Soap Commander is a fantastic soap that is easy to lather as well as slick and protective. The Renewal scent is very fresh and clean. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange and I ready for the work day. Hope everyone has a great day.
30 day focus - Day 13 Fat Boy set to 8 Rapira Swedish Blade MDC Face Lathered 3 passes I opened the Fat Boy up to 8 and the shave was very nice. I am not sure if it is better than at 7 or not, but I will give it a couple of days to see.
SOTD October 13, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Gillette British Rocket Blade: Personna Lab Blue Lather: WSP Tobacco Brush: Omega 10098 Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: WSP Tobacco Yesterday's shave was a bit closer than I normally like. I used the very efficient Rocket and boy was I rewarded with a nice shave, WSP soaps are excellent quality and buy. I have a love for synthetic brushes, but this boar is pretty darn good! Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
Thanks for the encouragement. Still have a ways to go on the expert part, though, which brings us to today... October 13 20's Old Type Astra SP (3) Nice close, one-pass shave. I had almost considered skipping shaving today as it seemed like my whiskers hadn't really grown back from yesterday yet. I did get a little sloppy, though, and ended up with a weeper on my chin.
Today was day one with PolSilver Super Iridium I found this blade very similar to a Feather on day one. It appears to be very sharp as I ended up with a nice two pass BBS with a little touch up. I did end up with three small weepers. This is the fourth blade of the month and the first weepers. Either my technique went out the window or there is something different about this blade. SOTD TOBS Grapefruit cream Rubberset 400 EJ DE89 PolSilver Super Iridium Old Spice AS Have fun!
That might actually be the blade edge causing the weepers. It will be interesting to see if it happens again.
Quit sandbagging...we all know that's just the cartel after shave supply. Igor has the good stuff stashed away.
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 13 Razor - Gillette 1959 Super Speed Blade - (3) Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - TSD Lanolin Bay Rum Post - Cold water, Alum, Nivea Original Final day for the '59 SS and Treet Silver. I checked the blade and found a couple of very tiny rust spots starting but nothing at all to be concerned about, I think. My routine of drying everything, 91% alcohol dip and leaving on my desk away from the humidity of the bath seems to be working. I'll use the same technique on the other carbons this month. The Pro 48 and TSD Lanolin again produced a magnificent lather. I seem to have settled into a three soap rotation.....MWF, TSD Lanolin, Tabac. Shave, rinse, repeat. Brush rotation has settled into Omega 10066, Omega Pro 48, Vie-Long 12601. We'll see if that lasts but it's a solid rotation for now. My other soaps on hand are Arko and Proraso Green Tub, both which I like but not the same as my top three. So, I've got a bit of variety if I want. I just don't want right now. First pass WTG still comfy and smooth. Audible feedback is still there but the reduction seems a tad less than the first day. XTG on the second cleaned everything up nicely but the neck is definitely behind the curve. Third pass ATG followed by G-slide on the neck brought it to DFS and that's all I'm concerned about. Great shave from the Silver on its final day. Since it's the first carbon of the month I'll put it in first place on that list. How does it compare to the New Steel that is leading the stainless side? I think both are equally smooth in their own way. Carbon is its own shave but the results of both are fantastic. Another TREET for the month. No tricks, and it was good to use the '59 Super Speed for a few consecutive days. Still a great razor. I know why Gillette sold so many of them.
Aristocrat hands down is the best! The Aristocrat is IMO Gillette's best made razor, perfect balance and shave.
Some secrets are more closely guarded than others. Premium vodka? The kind that tastes like icy mist? That makes you cry from the sheer goodness? Sorry, never heard of it.
You might be correct. Feathers do this to me sometimes on the first day and then settle down on subsequent shaves.
